The Size slider scales the entire filter output. Size is a global parameter – it is always present on the Settings tab in Filter Controls for any filter. However, if there are no measurable distances in a filter, the Size slider is disabled – for example, a filter that uses only Adjustment components such as Levels, Brightness / Contrast and Hue / Saturation will have the Size slider disabled.
Technically, Size serves as a base value that all the components in a filter use to calculate all their internal distances, scales, diameters and other distance-based attributes. No component parameters in Filter Forge specify absolute distances in pixels – all distance-based parameters are measured as a percentage of Size. For example, a Blur Radius of 10 with Size of 600 pixels translates into an actual blurring radius of 60 pixels. The only components not affected by Size are Image, Selection and Frame with Fixed Size turned on. Since all components within a filter use relative distances linked to a single base value (Size), all Filter Forge filters are resolution independent:
Image: 100 x 100 pixels
Size: 100 pixels
Image: 200 x 200 pixels
Size: 200 pixels
Image: 400 x 400 pixels
Size: 400 pixels
Size is measured in pixels and is capped by the minimum between the width and height of the source image. For example, for an image with the dimensions of 300x100 pixels, Size will be capped by the image height (100 pixels), and for a vertically oriented image with the dimensions of 200x700, Size will be limited by the image width (200 pixels). On the lower end, the Size value cannot be less than 1 pixel. Additionally, for discrete filters with Seamless Tiling turned on, the Size slider moves in discrete increments – this is needed to keep the result seamless.
