I just started the 30 day trial (on a monster pc) and am wondering if anyone has had the first rendering finish before the 30 days runs out.

I have no problems.

I'm using it on Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 10.
In Windows 10 is very fast.
In Windows XP is slower, but.... because of old PC.

If you simply start the program with the few original filters only, it should take only few minutes to start even using an old computer.

Instead, if you have a Library Backup and you suddenly copy it ( this means adding over 30,000 filters in one time ), then it can take something like 30 minutes in Windows XP and 5-10 minutes in Windows 7 or Windows 10.
But this is only the first time you open it.

Yeah...I apparently randomly grabbed the slowest filter in their downloads section. It's like I have radar.

Yes, Filter Forge may be slow I agree, but not so much that would take 30 days to render one result smile:D

The speed will totally depend on two main things

1 - The filter that you are using

2 - The processing power that your CPU have

There are filters that are VERY SLOW and can take up to 2 hours for the result, and other filters can give the result in 1 minute.

Also is very important that it will depend very much on the output resolution and if you are using the reduced preview or actual preview.

There are many threads about this

1 - What is important and priority for FF render speed ? NOT HARDWARE !

This thread can let you understand more about this

2 - Explaining which filters are slow and which fast

Although of course this is only if you see the filter inside and can see what the components are, as there is no way to know this from the Library

3 - Suggestion to give to new filters a Speed render level rating or mark

So after point 2 I suggested to give a speed rating or someway to mark and know the speed of the filters to know which ones are slower or faster, but has not been done

4 - The best way would be to optimize the code of FF for GPU, but it seems that this is not possible, and it has been requested many times already as shown on the thread below (and many others not listed)

ABOUT RENDER SPEED OF FILTER FORGE

As Skybase have said right, the speed issue, is NOT for ALL the filters, and it will depend very much on the filters you choose, there are available filters very fast, and some very slow, and a whole range of different speeds in the middle.

I can´t tell how many filters are fast or slow, you have to test them, some filters only takes a few seconds, others a few minutes and others could take take hours.

And of course ALL depends very much at how big is the resolution
