Here is a multi color example I have done
I really like very much how this filter can convert the black lines into the surrounding colors this black lines have and transform the picture very much from simple black lines to a colorful lines. There is a high Postwork on this one as I have made many changes in SH, levels, color balance, and replacing some color and adding some more things. The source picture has been done by MapleRose in Deviantart and is the copyright owner. ![]() |

The example has been made with the great help of the filter Stained Glass by Skybase
As you can see this one here below has lots of black lines and is about the same style of the above that also has lots of mini black frames. ![]() And if you think about what I have said above and also what happened to the windows backlit example I have put in the previous page, what will happen with this example through the RTG filter ? Well, it creates a really beautiful neon like style and make it nearly an inversion of colors and where the was light now is dark, and where was black now is a glowing rich color neon lines. ![]() |

I have uploaded the filter to the library.
I'm, also posting it here so Carl can play with it and decide if he wants it in his filter ![]() M_Shadows and Highlights.ffxml |

WOW, Morgantao this Shadow and Highlights filter you have made is really great, very well done, and very easy to use and with really great results, even better than others I have tried. Congratulations !!
And as you say sometimes is even better than what can be done with PS or other filter, especially on the yellows. Thanks very much for having done this filter, Great work Now really can finally use better this RTG filter. Unless Carl decides if he wants to have it inside or not I will use them separately. |

Glad you like it.
I uploaded it as a photo filter, not as a snippet, because I think people can use it as is, but that doesn't mean people shouldn't use it in their filters. If Carl or anyone else thinks that this filter can be useful inside his filter, by all means, add it in ![]() |

I like it even more now after I have done some more tests and NOT with the RTG results.
Yes you are right, this can be used as a standalone filter and with much more than this RTG filter, and as I told above I have used it with some other different images and it works well, the only possible problem it could be a lack of color correction as it has the SH in Photoshop.
Thanks for making this, I think this is useful in both ways. |

I have made some test with some plain stripes to see how the styles work in this filter, because on photos you really can´t see well how the filter works as there is to many things to guess what is the difference, in this one you can see clearly that there is a great difference.
I have put only the 3 most different styles I have seen from the 12 available ![]() |

Perhaps you could think that this is too tight and this way it looses the natural artistic painterly strokes, well I have an alternative. I have here expanded the original selection slightly (15 pixel in relation the this resolution) and then added a 5 pixel feather to smoothen borders.
And here is what I have got below. As you can see this way remains the artistic strokes while keeping the stripes shapes. I have adjusted the levels and made adjusted also to make the shadows and greys whiter so there is only the red strokes. ![]() |

SpaceRay, I hardly ever used Photoshop's SH adjustment, so I'm not sure what kind of color correction it has, but I'll do my best. Right now The filter is the simplest thing I could make it for users, just 4 controls. I'll see what I can do for color correction. If I find a good solution I'll add it as an update.
The red stripes in the first example, I guess you used RTG with the same settings for all 3 and then 3 presets of my filter? That's a very nice example of how the different presets look like. ![]() |

THE BACKGROUND (OR MAIN) COLOR IS IMPORTANT
I have made also an examples of the stripes in black background instead of white to show another good thing that I like much from this filter, and is that it does act differently according to the background or the main color of the image. As you can see in the example below that is organized in exactly the same way as the above one and with the same styles If you look closely Style 6 converts totally the black background to white although the strokes effects are done in black This below the first is the original, and all are done on Preset 1 default settings BUT changing only the styles, on the first one is style 1, second below is style 6 and the last one is style 9. ![]() |

BE CAREFUL WITH BLACK THIN LINES
Another thing I like is that this filter converts the thin black lines into white BUT giving a tint of the color that is next to it. You can see in the example above that I have painted 3 thin black lines in the first 3 stripes and these show and are converted to light pink on ALL 3 styles. So if there are thin black lines in your photo or image, be aware that these could be changed and converted. I do not know HOW thin or thick the black line has to measure to be converted or not converted by the filter, as you can see above only the thin lines are converted and not the large black ones. WHAT IS GOOD ABOUT CONVERTING THESE THIN BLACK LINES INTO WHITE OR COLOR Perhaps this could be seen as a problem, but I do not think so, I love and like it much THIS WAY, because it gives surprising and good results if you choose carefully the image. I have 3 examples that shows this very well and I like much the result. FIRST EXAMPLE One of these can be found on page 2 of this thread where there are lots of grey and black cables, and many of them have been converted to white giving a surprising and unexpected good texture that I like much than if it would not done this way. ![]() This would not have the same great result if it did not convert some of the cables and black parts to white. SECOND EXAMPLE Please see first post on this 3rd page It can be seen in the first post on this same third page and the original have all black miniframes but when passed through the RTG filter on preset 1 it makes a beautiful conversion of the black into white AND gives hues and tones of the colors that are next to it. THIRD EXAMPLE Please see second post on this 3rd page This can be seen in the second post of this third page and you can see that in the original there is a lot of black thin lines and then the result from RTG shows a very nice conversion of these lines into neon style colored ones. ALL BLACK IS CONVERTED IN STYLE 6 And what I like it also is the possibility of changing nearly all the black into white or colored lines if you choose style 6 on preset 1 with default settings |

Well I have used the WRONG word it really is not exactly color correction, is really ADJUSTMENTS and it includes some color correction slider although I do not now how this works it seems to be a simple saturation control, although I do not know really, and this IS NOT THE IMPORTANT thing, I really hardly use this slider The important adjustment and correction inside the Shadow and Highlight is the MIDTONES CONTRAST that is useful and great.
Glad you like them, I though that is would be a good way to show it and see it myself too. SHORT ANSWER Not exactly this way. I applied the same preset 1 with the three different styles and then joined them in the 4 square image and then I have applied to the whole 4 squares your own filter to correct the dark colors once. LONG ANSWER First I made the red stripes on photoshop and save this as source. Then I opened FF with RTG and applied the preset 1 with style 1. Made a duplicate copy of the image Went back to the original source with the history panel Then I opened FF with RTG and applied the preset 1 with style 6. Made a duplicate copy of the image Went back to the original source with the history panel Then I opened FF with RTG and applied the preset 1 with style 6 Went back to the original source with the history panel Resize the canvas of the original source x2 in each side Join together all 4 squares and add the the text and flatten the image Start FF and use Morgantao Shadow and Highlight filter. |

What would happen if you try to use this RTG filter over written text ?
I have wrote this text in Photoshop and then used it as source for this filter. The result was made in a duplicated layer, so I still had the original text, so it put the original above the layer of the FF result and faded it until you only see slightly the shapes of the letters and fills the missing parts that the RTG filter have erased. If you do it with plain solid color it will probably not work well, as I tested it and did not like, so I tried with drop shadow and inner shadow, and have choosen this inner shadow that gives a good effect when the RTG filter is applied. ![]() |

mmmmm a bit frustrating your snippet look good in the filter [ and your is fast ] add it to mine and it like tying a brick to it, making it 75% slower

Interesting... I'll see what makes it become so slow when it's a snippet, as it works fast as a stand alone filter...

![]() ![]() WOW, how could this happen? Where have you put the snippet? in the end or somewhere in the middle of your filter?
Good thing, yes.
I am very sorry, But I still do not believe this until I make new tests with the previous images I have and then I will be able to believe it or not. I hope that you are right. Before the toning choice did not have much effect. |

I don't know why this happens... Carl did it right, it's FF that's got it all wrong! ![]() I post a question about that here: http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...0&TID=9782 Maybe one of the filter lords could explain it to us. |

Thanks for your comment and is a pleasure to support authors that make great filters like this one and give creative filters.
No, here is forbidden to have this wiring ![]() Here another great example of what from a totally white background this filter can convert it into such artistic one. This has some postwork after in photoshop, with shadows and highlights, and replacing some colors and made some more adjustments, although all the effect is from the filter itself not added anything in Photoshop. ![]() |

This filter has been removed from the Library, the reasons why are explained in this thread by Carl
Just curious, what happens when a filter is removed from the library as is the case in this one ? The only thing that happens is that it when trying to go the filter link it puts the message "This filter was removed. Sorry." ? I suposse that all the data in the forum is NOT deleted, only the usage rank, filter history and all the information in the FF library but not in the forum. |

Here I have made a work with this filter and some postwork in Photoshop
This original source image is a couple of parrots with a solid white background, and like very much how the filter is able to fill that plain and empty white with a lot of amazing and beautiful gray artistic strokes. At first the Gray strokes really can´t be shown much, but if you modify the highlights they will be shown. I rendered the image with this filter, and then replaced just and only the parrots heads and mixed them with the result, and then used the "shadow and highlights" tool and reducing the "highlight" setting to bring forward much more the great artistic textures and strokes made by the filter, and you can use it twice if you want even more details and textures as I have done here Also used the Dodge tool to lighten and give more color to the parrots ![]() |

Here is another example with two parrots and also a completely white empty background and when used this filter it makes such a great amount of beautiful artistic strokes. This has the same postwork inside Photoshop as already told in the post above.
Would love that Carl could be able to make the new version of this filter OR allow another user to modify it so it could be again in the library, as it deserves to be here to be used by many FF users. ![]() |

I wonder what happened with this filter, that has been removed from the library because it would be rebuilt, but have never appeared again, and is a great pity, because I think that is really an awesome and amazing artistic and creative filter that makes such beautiful and wonderful artistic effects
