Hello,

I went to www.Filterforge.com/filters > Recent and found a few interesting filters.
So I tried to find “MC - 7 Colors”

Opened FF > search > MC - 7 Colors > No Results
Opened FF Librarian > search filters > “no results found

I did this with other Popular and Featured filters and got similar results.

What am I doing wrong? Please help.

I did not have an issue with the FF website, www.Filterforge.com/filters/
The issue is with with FF and the FF Librarian

I Opened FF > search > MC - 7 Colors > "No Results"
Opened FF Librarian > search filters > MC - 7 Colors > “no results found"

So I do not have "MC - 7 Colors" in FF nor can the Librarian find it on the FF website. If the Librarian can find it I would then click to download it.

Not only the filter "MC - 7 Colors" but also other filters. Also tried DISTORTED NOISEY BLUR, Mycotech withou success. I did this with other Popular and Featured filters and got similar results.

What am I doing wrong? Please help.

I think that I may understand what means, the Librarian filters pack are saved filters from the website, and they only included the filters until the date that the Librarian was made, as far as I know it is NOT updated automatically from the comments that I have seen in the forum, so this way ANY filter that has been published AFTER the Librarian was done, it will not be found because is new

I do not know how does it work the filters Librarian updates and how can it be updated, and if it can be updated in some way.

What is the problem for you for downloading the filters from the website, or using the maybe better and mass downloader OLIFF_

See what the OLIFF is here

Wow! Very interesting.

Thanks for the info. But:

It cannot be. It has to do with insanity. It is insane that someone will build a Librarian that only downloads filters only the ones that have been built but not the newer ones. So what you are saying has to be wrong. Just has to be. I does not make sense. So basically I just hope that you are wrong and I retain my sanity.

The reason I bought the Librarian was to avoid using OL and OLIFF. I tried OL and OLIFF and had some issues. I wanted an easy way to be up to date on the filters.

SpaceRay, Thanks for taking the time to respond. I hope that the moderator or the developer will clear things up. Judging from the wonderful images that FF can do they are very capable so I am sure this will be resolved.

Unfortunately, it is sad but true. Quote from Library Backup information:

Being an archive, Filter Library Backup doesn't have any update functions. Both Filter Library Backup and Librarian are linked to a specific Filter Forge version, for example, Filter Forge 5.0 won't accept filters from Librarian 4.0.

If you want to receive an updated filter archive each time we release a new Filter Forge version, you may be interested in the lifetime upgrade license for a one-time fee that covers all future Filter Forge versions. Lifetime upgrades for Filter Library Backup and Librarian are available on request.

I've decided it's not something I want to pay money for.

I'm going to edit the Feature Wishlist entry on this topic to be more specific.

You would like the Library Backup to periodically and automatically update (maybe you can force-update it also). Thus, your copy of Librarian would be able to find even the newest filters in the online library (assuming your version of Filter Forge is up to date).

Frankly, I agree with you, Kalimera. The power of Librarian is hindered by the fact that it doesn't update its archive. Also, many other programs/apps have automatic or user-permission updates, so your request is pretty standard.

*I don't own Librarian, so if I said anything wrong, please correct me.

I bought the FF librarian to avoid using the OL and OLIFF methods.

The FF Librarian 5.006 has downloaded version 5 filters I am sure. Unfortunately in FF the ABOUT does not mention the Version number. I am also pretty sure it has downloaded Version 1, 2, 3 and 4 Filters.

So the FF Librarian is capable of downloading filters and has done so without issues unless I want to download current filters. Weird!!! Why lim it the Librarian only to older filters?

I as use this wonderful program I find out more and more ugly truths.

A came here to FF to make art not spend time on the forum asking for help on silly little things, Things that should just work! I am very upset.

I do not need automation just the ability to download any of the available filters using the Filter Forge Librarian 5.006. I am not asking for too much. When I bought the FF Librarian I complained that an easy and free method was not provided to download filters. Apparently even with this paid Librarian it is still not possible.

Yes my Filter Forge 5.007 is up to date.

Ok. This is just a nightmare and I will wake up and find out that the paid FF Librarian can download any and all filters just by a free update. I can't wait to wake up!

The free though not very convenient OL and OLIFF methods for downloading the filters have access to the complete Filter Database

It is odd that the paid for FF Librarian does not have access to the complete Filer database.

Please Correct me if I am wrong.

There are already others threads about the librarian on the forum if you search

I do not how the librarian works so I can not help with this, only have the comments from the forum posts

What is the problem for using the OL and OLIFF methods and having also the librarian?

Why you want to avoid using these two methods alternatively to the librarian wich is good too? At least for newest filters

For problems downloading filters there is this thread

For any trouble and problems downloading filters from FF website

Librarian is just a tool to preview filters inside a Filter Library Backup and load them into Filter Forge. That's why it is not sold separately from the Filter Library Backup.

And a backup is a backup: it is not supposed to be updated. If your backup is released in December 2015 it can't possibly have the filters from May 2016.

EAdams already gave the link, but I'd suggest Kalimera to check it again:

Sorry for the delay in responding.

Some time ago I had issues with downloading the filters using either one or both OL and OLIFF methods. Somewhere it was suggested to get the FF Librarian which I did.

The OL and OLIFF methods and the FF Librarian to me are methods to download the Filters from FF 1 thru FF 5, the current version I now have. They all get the filters from the same database but the paid version because it is called an Archive or Backup intentionally prevents the download of Filters that were made after the FF 5 purchase date. So from what I understand the paid version the FF Librarian because it is called an Archive or Backup and not a Filter Downloader is not allowed access to the current Filters but using the OL and OLIFF methods you can. Does this sound reasonable to you?

I have praised FF for the great Filters it has to offer. I love the FF Filters and use them often. This will not change. Using the FF Librarian I have conveniently downloaded many wonderful Filters, however disappointed that a petty limitation is placed on the FF Librarian that prevents me from conveniently downloading the newer Filters. Crazy world we live in!

Furthermore let me add that the folks at Filter Forge deserve the credit for doing so many things right. How could in my opinion screw the FF Librarian up with a trivial limitation. I am disappointed at them however I will get FF 6 when released!

Hello,

Let me reiterate:

When I used the OL and OLIFF download methods it was a time consuming disaster for me. Likely my fault. I do not want to repeat this mess.

The FF Librarian work like a charm but it has the limitation preventing me to download current FF5 filters (filters that were made after the Librarian purchase date). My FF Librarian 5.006 and Filter Library Backup were purchased Dec 3, 2015. This means I am only entitled to download FF Filters that were made prior to Dec 3, 2015.

I want to get the FF Filters that were made after Dec 3, 2015 but do not want to repeat the problematic (for me) OL and OLIFF methods.

Question:
Let me propose that I buy a second license of the Filter Library Backup so that I can download FF Filters form Dec 3, 2015 to let’s say August 15, 2016. Do I also need to purchase the second FF Librarian license? Will there any issues be created. Will I have to un-install the current FF Librarian and Filter Library Backup? Or the easiest for all concerned just remove the date limitation that allows access to the FF Filter database and I will pay whatever is required.

Please help.

PS:
I am looking forward to the FF 6. Just wish that the FF Librarian be included in the FF6. The reason I say this is that the FF Librarian for downloading filters is a pleasure to use.

As far as I know from reading the text explaining the Librarian, you only need to buy the filter library backup, as you already have bought the librarian software, so you do not need to buy it again, just only the filter backup library

What would be best and good is that once you buy the Librarian it could be able to download any update made to the filter library backup so it is kept updated, as you have paid already for both, or at least be able to be able to download them from website.

What are the problems that you have with OLIFF download?

As far as I know in the OLIFF the filters are ordered by publish date, so the newest ones are the first ones and the oldest the last ones on the caregory you choose

The only problem I have OLIFF method is that the search engine does not work, as it takes very long time and seems to never give any results, it keeps searching and searching.

Hi SpaceRay,

Thanks for your concern.

I am hopping that the management will respond to my August 6, 2016 post. I love Filter Forge and this is why I am so persistent to find a way to get the current FF 5 Filters.

To answer your question, it has been a while since I attempted to used the OL and OLIFF download methods. It was such a mess for me that I do not want to repeat it.

So it seems I only need to purchase the Filter Library Backup to get the FF 5 Filters from the Dec 3, 2015 to let’s say August 15, 2016. All I need from the management is to answer this Question:

Can I buy a second license of the Filter Library Backup so that I can download FF 5 Filters from Dec 3, 2015 to let’s say August 15, 2016. I hope the second Filter Library Backup does not delete the the Filters that are already on my hard drive. Do I also need to purchase the second FF Librarian license? Will there any issues be created. Will I have to un-install the current FF Librarian and Filter Library Backup? Or the easiest for all concerned just adjust the end date to allow access to the FF Filter database and I will pay whatever is required.

After all those that have the FF5 license are entitled to all the FF5 filters. All I am asking is for me to pay for the convenience of using the FF Librarian to get all the FF5 that are currently available to all. For the record I am willing to pay to buy the Filter Library Backup second time to achieve this.

This is how much I think of your Filter Forge Librarian! It's fantastic! Far superior to the OL and OLIFF download methods.

Legally yes, but you can contact the support team and ask if there is an updated backup available. Unless you're asking for a new filter version (e.g., 5.0-compatible filters over 4.0 ones), we always accommodate such requests.

Kalimera, does this answer your question ?
