Yes, it should -- this is due to the Perlin noise algorithm.

Me too -- we spent several weeks trying to eliminate this. Actually, what you see is already an improved version of Perlin noise (our original one was way worse). We consulted with Ken Perlin about this, and he was very helpful (his advice has helped us to make the grid much less apparent), but unfortunately it is impossible to eliminate the grid completely.
