Hi together,
I installed the newest version of final ff, and still have the old and already mentioned problems (mid of 2006) when I try to download filters. The Message is "Unable to connect to the server. Please make sure you are connected to the internet". The same time I have the ff-site open in IE. I'm afraid this is due to corporate security settings and the opening or cloasing of spec. ports (8080 ?). Is there a way, to just download filters directly from the site? I have no problems downloading the installationroutine for ff. Thanks in advance! Regards rilos regards, rilos |

Rilos,
Filter Forge uses secure connection (port 443) for downloading filters. Please make sure it is not blocked on your computer. |

Hi GMM,
I'm afraid it is blocked, and I cannot do anything against it, because its IT-Administration (corporate). Is there any other way to download or submit filters? Why don't you offer the normal download procedure as for FF itself? Best regards, rilos regards, rilos |

Rilos, please try one more thing -- reconfigure Filter Forge Options.
Run Filter Forge and select Tools > Options > Online tab. Then, if you use a proxy server to connect to the Internet, choose the "Use proxy" option. If you don't use proxy, choose "Direct connection". |

Rilos, if changing online options, as Bella described, doesn't help you can use another unblocked computer to download the filters.
The library filters are stored in this location: %APPDATA%\Filter Forge\System\Library. After downloading the filters you will need to copy the contents of this directory to your corporate computer. |

Thanks for your help @Bella, GMM -
unfortunately nothing works. I think its due to the fact that most ports are blocked here. O.k. I can check with an other computer at home, but my home connection is very slow (living in the countryside...) Thanks so far! regards, rilos |

Hi Guys,
finaly it works when I say "direct connection" in the options settings! It tried that before and it didn't work. Now, that I opened nearly every possible port it works but only with direct connection. Maybe it would be a good idea, to offer some normal download procedure for filters as well as the program itself. Best regards, rilos regards, rilos |

rilos, are you using a firewall (software) AND a router together, by any chance?
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Good morning Kraellin,
no, I just use a firewall (zonealarm) and set all rights for ff and opened some more ports (443). I dont use any router. And it still doesn't work from company-access (they dont open these ports I'm afraid). regards, rilos |

well, i'm glad you could get the programs at home. cant help you with blocked ports at work. that would be your IT guy you'd have to check with.
but, if you can get them at home, you can always stick them on a thumb drive or cd/dvd and simply take them to work and copy them over there. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Xuman, I think that it would have been much better that you have opened a new thread to have an answer as this one has been from 2007 !!!
Have you waited one year and a half to make the second post as ask for the answer ??? ![]() ![]() I can suggest two things if you can´t download filters directly: 1 - OPTION 1 - Download the filters on another computer that CAN download, installing there Filter Forge, and then make a backup of the filters you downloaded and then copy them to your computer at work. You do not need to download one by one, as you can use the Filter Browser included already inside the Filter Forge application to download many filters at one time. Advantages and Disadvantages of using the OL and OLIFF Filters Library http://filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=8939 Guide to how to backup your FF filters library from your hard drive http://filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=8910 and Where are the downloaded Filter Forge filters located physically? http://filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=9049 2 - OPTION 2 - Buy the full and complete Filter Forge Library Backup which contains ALL the filters that can be found online, and so you will not need to download nothing and it is really cheap for the thousands of filters you get. See this thread here ---> http://filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=8589 You can buy it here ---> http://goo.gl/ixe92 And then also copy the filters to your own filter forge library as shown here http://filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=8910 http://filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=9049 |
