BACKUP FF FILTERS Before I have made this "How to make a backup" guide but I think that this thread here is explained better and with more detail.

NEW COMPUTER AND NEED TO MOVE FF FILTERS TO THAT COMPUTER ?

Also is interesting to see this other thread that have even more information and more explained --> Moving Filters Fr om 1 Computer to Another

But I have seen that to be sure that you copy ALL the FF filters, my filters folder and my presets and setting, must copy all the whole Filter forge directory and not only system as shown below.

WANT TO BUY OR HAVE BOUGHT THE FF FILTER BACKUP LIBRARY ?

ALSO this would be useful if you want to buy or have bought the FF backup library fr om the link there is in this thread here (Buying the Filter Library Backup online)as you will need to know wh ere to put them.

I have copied and expanded the text fr om the Filter Forge wiki, so perhaps other persons could be like me, and forget that there is a wiki with frequent questions answers that can be found here

If it is here would probably find it better if you search the forum

Also you can see if you want my other thread for making a backup

DOWNLOADED FILTERS LOCATION

Where are the downloaded Filter Forge filters located physically?

How can I copy my downloaded filters to another computer or make a backup?

If for any reason you want to make a backup copy of your downloaded filters, or copy back or install any FF filter you have, or you want to work with Filter Forge on a computer without access to the Internet, please continue reading:

After you download the library filters you can copy the contents of the following folder to a removable or a Flash drive

You can copy this folder to the same location on the other machine.

FOR WINDOWS

%APPDATA%\Filter Forge\System\
(by default it is C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Filter Forge\System)

To quickly get to the folder containing the filter files, sel ect any filter inside Filter Forge (in the top left window) and press Ctrl+L (or choose Filter > Locate File fr om the menu). This will open an Explorer window showing the location.

Please, mind the version suffix when speaking of direct links. For Filter Forge 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 it will be

%APPDATA%\Filter Forge\System\Library,
%APPDATA%\Filter Forge 2\System\Library
%APPDATA%\Filter Forge 3\System\Library

FOR MAC OS:

~/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge/System/

Copy this folder fr om the removable drive to the same location on the other machine.

MY FILTERS and MY PRESETS FOLDER LOCATION OUTSIDE OF SYSTEM

Wh ere are "My filters" folder located physically? How can I copy "my filters" folder to another computer?[/B]

MY PRESETS location is in the same place that is the "My filters" folder as shown below, but instead of "my filters" change it to "my presets".

FOR WINDOWS

The path is as follows: %APPDATA%\Filter Forge\My Filters

(by default it is C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Filter Forge\My Filters)

- mind the version suffix when speaking of direct links. For Filter Forge 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 it will be

%APPDATA%\Filter Forge\My Filters
%APPDATA%\Filter Forge 2\My Filters
%APPDATA%\Filter Forge 3\My Filters

You can copy this folder to the same location on the other machine.

FOR MAC OS

FilterForge 1: ~/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge/My Filters

FilterForge 2: ~/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 2/My Filters

--------
The correct path to your filterforge library is /Users/<HomeFolderName>/Library/Application Support/FilterForge 1 2 or 3

On MacOSX Lion, the library folder inside of your home folder is hidden. To access it, HOLD DOWN option (or alt) and in your Finder, go to the menu called "Go" you'll see the icon for "Library." Make sure you hold down option or otherwise this doesn't work.

If you have MacOSX versions below Lion, the library folder is not hidden. So no fuss there. smile:)

This should answer your question.

I think this is is one of the most asked questions when you want to backup the filters smile:D that is why I have made this thread after seeing lots of post and threads asking for this
If you find the %APPDATA% intimidating, there is even a much easier way to find the filters of filter forge without doing this

The easiest way is to open Filter Forge, go to the fiter menu at the left, and then sel ect a filter in the filter list and press Ctrl+L.

After pressing Ctrl + L a new window will open showing you ALL the filters you have, and then you can sel ect all and copy them all fr om the Filter Forge 2\System\Library to the Filter Forge 3\System\Library (both folders are in the same place)

This does NOT include the "my filters" folder or any of the "my presets" you may have, and this must be done in the way shown above in the links to make a copy of these to FF 3.0, although it could be also easy if you are already in Filter Forge 2\System\Library because the only step you need is to go back fr om Filter Forge 2\system to the root folder and find Filter Forge\My Filters and My presets

If you are making a backup because you are having some error with one (or more) filter you must first delete this filter from the library. AND very important is to delete also the Librarystructure.xml file because this ALSO has the error filter included. This Librarystructure.xml will be rebuilt by FF next time you start it.

Here I put the folders where are stored the other important .xml Filter Forge files

To find this enter %APPDATA% in the search bar of windows and search for the Filter Forge folder you want as told above

This the main folder inside APPDATA

Finally, I have found that my Filters are in the following folder(Mac):

/Users/admin/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 4/System/Library

smile:)

The folder was hidden.
And I used the following "terminal command" to show all the hidden files and folders.

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES

BTW, thank you, Skybase and SpaceRay.

Thanks Leo Chen and glad it has been useful to you

Is true that the files may be in a hidden folder, and they at first may be invisible, but they are there, I think at there is also a preference setting where you can switch on and off hidden folders as it happens in Windows

It seems that Rachel Duim has told that the location may have changed IF you are using MacOS Catalina

Rachel Duim wrote:

Yes the latest Catalina. It has to be in:

Macintosh HD : Users : username : Library : Application Support : Filter Forge 9

It is possible some folders are hidden. This will fix it.

See hidden files on Mac via Finder
In Finder, open up your Macintosh HD folder.
Press Command+Shift+Dot.
Your hidden files will become visible. Repeat step 2 to hide them again!

The files are in the same place, but by default the user library folder is hidden after the Catalina update.

This is true, and you can“t go to the library BUT I found an easy and simple way to make it visible

1 - Go to filter forge filter list

2 - search for any filter downloaded from the FF library

3 - Right mouse button sel ect "Locate file"

4 - It will open the Finder window and to be able to see the library folder go to the top left and on the first 4 icons, there is one with 4 vertical panels, click on it and it will show the library folder

5 - Select the Library folder and drag an drop to the sidebar to the left

now if you need to go to this hidden folder you can easily do it fr om the sidebar as it is still hidden but you can go to it whever you want easily.

UPDATE: With the latest update to Filter Forge 10, the filters are back to where they were previously. YaY!

Where are the Filter Forge 10 "My Filters" stored, on Mac?
Previously, I was able access via: Macintosh HD : Users : username : Library : Application Support : Filter Forge 9
But now, I can't see a Library folder, using the above path, and I've unhidden all the files.
I am on a iMac Pro, using macOS Big Sur 11.2.1
