On March 28, 2012 12:16 am I suggested Filter to Qbertify photos with ONLY the source color and not mapping.

AND now JUST 28 HOURS after is already in the library !!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

And what I see is that is NOT even a normal and plain filter as it has some interesting features added that the others filters did not have.

Thanks very much for making this in this way and so fast, you know really well how to use the Filter Editor smile:)

Hard shadows = http://www.filterforge.com/filters/9464.html

Filterforge classic request done with LUA.

Basically solid shadows based on a light source. It's like one of those things we can just plug n play smile:p Not that it has to be in this Filter. I'm just saying cause it looks cool.

SUGGESTION OF MASKING AND ALLOWING ALPHA CHANNEL

I have tried from the two frames above to make also another example with a plain black center but I have tried to make an image with transparent center so that it could be like an alpha channel that this filter is not made to accept any kind of alpha channel and it converts any transparency to solid black

I would like to suggest if it would be possible to make an update with a feature of allowing to have alpha channel and make it as a mask wh ere the cubes are filled in and that they do not get cut straight in the same way as the example shown here below.

For this one below I have made it in Photoshop the frame and then made a selection of ONLY the size of the frame I wanted to have and so FF filled this selection with cubes, BUT as you can they are very sharply cut, and if you use a feather selection it looks bad.

I have made this example in Photoshop of what is my suggestion so it can be understood much better and see how it should look if this was possible to make in this filter.

As shown above using a selection makes a very sharp cut on all the cubes, and my suggestion is to bel able to keep whole cubes in the borders of the selection, and this can be done only if the filter allows to have alpha masks and knows how to fill that mask so the result could be the one shown here below

This one above of the frame is just one example, but having the alpha channel allowed and workin inside the filter could allow to load any mask shape and make lots of different possible designs and also if you invert the mask.

I could try to make it myself, but as this is an official published filter in the library, I want to keep the rewards to the author and use it if possible so you get the usage rank reward that you deserve for making this filter, and this would be lost if I made it.

For more information and more examples of what I am suggesting and from where I have had this idea comes from this other thread and how to able to do this that I have shown above is in this thread here

A way to make a Q*Bert style with 3 color cubes and with missing cubes

As said above I have been trying to make a new version, (at least for myself if Mongoose king does not authorizes it here in the forum) to allow having missing cubes and/or alpha masks to make bigger holes inside the cubes design.

After some time, I have found a possible new way to do it and will try now and see if it works right.

I have got the easy part adding the missing cubes for making holes, now I will try to add the more complex masking as this does not use the bomber so is more difficult but will to use the tecnique used on others filters that are also cube based.

very nice work.

Well this has been a very easy and simple thing adding just a threshold component AND modifying some blend mode of the source component that was giving wrong results.

Now the cubes creating works in a different way, and masking works in different way too to the others examples, but I think that uberzev had also a cube creator with kaleidoscope, so I will see it.
