  • Randomizer Lock
... button. I was exploring the output of a filter but wanted a particular colour palette and ended up copying the filter, and then editing out the colour pickers and "hard coding" the colours I wanted there so they wouldn't be affected by the randomized values of each click. ...and I thought a little lock icon beside the control would have been alot handier :)

  • Control Locks in V4???
Author: Crapadilla. I'm looking at randomization locks fr om a filter author's perspective: I'd simply want the ability to 'hard-code' certain controls to be permanently non-randomizable. Now, this is obviously a different use case than that of a filter user that wants to stop certain arbitrary controls ...

  • Control Locks in V4???
... values. At that point, I have a decent idea of which respond in an interesting manner to variation and which are the ones I want to stay put. I'd like to then lock those down and start banging away on the Randomize button. As I go, I'd be likely to lock additional parameters down as the randomizer finds values I like. So from one point of view, attaching the lock to the filter is reasonable: it potentially signals a parameter which doesn't necessarily respond well to random values. On the other, attaching the lock to a preset signals ...

  • Lock Controls On Randomize
... controls to avoid their randomization has already been requested. Most likely, this is already on our long-term plans" well, we are already near October 2013, Seven Years after this and still there is no news about what will happen with this randomization lock for specific controls. When he said that it was in the LONG-term plans, he really meant LOOOONG time, 7 years and still counting ;) :D Is crazy that even when Vladimir agree to include this and like the idea, and this was already requested ...

  • Control Locks in V4???
Author: Vladimir Golovin. "Then, and now, I could actually live without persistence entirely." Gilles, yes, but I think you'd still prefer that your randomization lock settings were retained at least for the current session. That is, when you lock some controls in a filter, switch to another filter then back to the first one, you'd see all your locks still in place. Technically, the per-session persistence of ...

  • Control Locks in V4???
... everyone the randomizer control locks If I add adjustments controls to the filter it will nearly "destroy" the randomizer and the use of the "next variant" button. And this is only one of the many examples I could give for having the randomizer locks

  • Control Locks in V4???
Author: Vladimir Golovin. "What exactly would be the advantage of having randomization locks per-preset, I wonder. Because I really do not see any." Same here, the advantages seem unclear to me. I do see a potential disadvantage: per-preset locks can confuse some users. "Hey, wait a second, didn't I just lock this control ...

  • Control Locks in V4???
Author: Vladimir Golovin. Dilla, inujima's idea above (see also my interpretation of it) is a pretty strong argument in favor of per-filter locks. What do you (and everyone) think about allowing to lock modifiability, not just randomization?

  • 'Randomizable' option for controls
... my high detail textures for example. Having it randomized influences preview behaviour in an undesirable way. Another case would be checkboxes that put filters into 'special' modes. Take 'Cast Shadows' for my 'Aqua Buttons Galore' as an example. Locking 'Cast Shadows' from randomization would greatly enhance the performance of the filter while browsing 'variations', as turning it off results in much faster previews. Having to turn it off manually after hitting 'next variation' every now and then is slightly annyoing. Hence ...

  • Randomizer Lock
Author: Kraellin. put a little box next to each control. in fact, put two, about the size of one of the smilies on here. one is for locking the control from changing when you hit 'randomize' and one for locking the 'size, pixels' effect, and yeah, i'm fine with those.

  • random filter generation (in editor)
... wrote: "...(think of the "dice" that Flaming Pear has in a number of their plugins)..." This reminded me of something... It might be nice if you could lock some of the sliders so that when you hit "Next Variant" those locked sliders remain the same, while the others randomly change.

  • Prop Prof Grad!!!
... the only one who wants this, am I??? :| In frame filters alone.....it would allow for exact sizing of the picture within the frames without any cropping to the image.....and without having to choose the longer length.....which kills the use of randomization without control locks..... Speaking of control locks..... :dgrin: .....

  • Wishlist: Randomize ON/OFF for each setting.
Author: Kraellin. this has already been mentioned for wish list before, but i do like your implementation of the little lock. also, whereas you cant lock or unlock individual sliders, you do have some control over randomization. click the little box to the right of 'next variation' and you'll see.

  • Top 3 Features Wanted!!!
Author: SpaceRay. "StevieJ 2) Filter and Lighting Control Locks: Randomization is useless with having to remember and reset filter and lighting controls... Further, it would give authors a much quicker way to troubleshoot problems in filter creation... " Please, Please, what about the randomizer CONTROL LOCKS ...

  • Question about *locking* filters.
... like the late great persidio suggested, don't want their concepts ripped off and duplicated for sale, well, if the filter is locked and can read-only, then they can label the controls along the lines of what I did with my "Skeptic" filter, and ... ... filter makers would even be able to begin to decipher the madness that lurks beneath the hood. Meanwhile, we all get to hit random all day, or tweak sliders, and get some cool results. I think it's a more than reasonable feature request, although I doubt ...

  • Loop component
Author: StevieJ. "Things like folder-based filter storage and randomizer lock are boooooooooooooooooring but necessary. Personally, I'm always in favor of working on cool features, but we can't ignore the necessities, especially ones that appeal both to filter authors and users." Did you finally say that, Vlad??? ...

  • Control Locks in V4???
Author: SpaceRay. From first post "StevieJ Please tell me there are going to be control locks for use in randomization in this release???" Until now, there is no news or confirmation that this control locks feature will happen and be available in FF 4.0 final version. From my personal point of view, this is really a much needed and very useful ...

  • Lock Controls On Randomize
Author: BLUEFROG. My biggest wish (right now, anyways)... A Lock on the Control Components you specify. If you are one of the 3 people who have downloaded my filters, they end up being very non-specific when Randomizing. LiquidRock 1.0b is actually a generator for stone textures but with the amount of controls I added, hitting the Randomize button can give you anything from liquids to rocks (hence, LiquidRock) to crap. (Similarly with my new filter Tessellator ...

  • Control Locks in V4???
Author: Sharandra. "The new locking approach makes the Randomizer Settings dialog obsolete, so I'm thinking about killing it off entirely, and replacing it with a menu that would appear when you click the little button to the right of 'Next Variant' " For the per-preset approach: Maybe you could ...
