  • Nebulae in Progress
... cusomizability, good sense of depth. Cons: Large number of controls, or there will be when it's done. Layer splitting with a Tone Curve doesn't handle tone modifications to the base noise profile very well. Slow as all get out. Seriously, it's pretty darn slow right now, around 6 minutes to render on my dual-core 3Ghz Mac. Actually, is that terrible? Are there guidelines anywhere? Also, I'm welcoming suggestions for improvements.

  • Beta Gallery
Author: Skybase. Sierpinski Triangle. A portion of it was based on Uberzev's past example although this version uses the loop component and is a bit more efficient. (though render speeds are a bit slow heh.)

  • Heavenly Bodies by Aurum
Author: Aurum. Thanks! I apologize for the powerfully slow rendering of this filter(especially earth-type). I simply don't know what to do to clean it up and make it faster. Any suggestions?

  • Decorated Latticework by ahimsa
Author: ahimsa. Sorry, I was meaning Corrosion 2. It is a very slow rendering one, but if I change things on it then the details I was wanting are lost. I'll take a look at that other filter.

Author: Crapadilla. "Vladimir Golovin wrote: That is not a downside, quite the opposite Wink" Should I interpret this as meaning "We don't want any slow rendering filters on the library"?

  • Speed of filter processing – FIXED
Author: Vladimir Golovin. "Skybase wrote: Another thing I figured was that the Mac PS Plugin seems to be EXTREMELY slow compared to the Standalone copy. " Now this is very interesting. Could you please post some measurements? To measure rendering time in Filter Forge, check the 'Show Elapsed Rendering Time' checkbox in Tools > Options > Rendering. Anyone else experiencing this?

  • Easy way to make ourselves in the forum our own Benchmark to compare
... we should find and agree to use some are very intensive and complex filter that takes some time to render, and perhaps some other filter that only need a little, or have 3 power hungry filters, or whatever any of you could suggest COMPARE FILTER RENDER SPEED Perhaps you think that Filter Forge is slow, but it can be that the problem is that your computer is not fast enough and it renders at the maximum speed it can with the cpu power it has available. So if we could put a benchamrks results of many different computers, that some are very powerful ...

  • Is FF Inc. making something for FF 4.0 to have a FASTER render engine?
... there's nothing you can do about that. I don't know the reason why some filters need a lot of time to "prepare themselves" before rendering, but as far as I know, there aren't many that do so. "Let me mention a couple things that slow your render down. First of all, depending on anti-alias settings, you can really get slow results." It's true that AA can take a long time, sometimes longer than the render itself. The AA pass, however, starts only after the filter has done rendering,...

  • Making trees -- any ideas?
Author: Kraellin. ok, got it down to 29 seconds total rendering time, but it's added a number of anomolies, so i'm not gonna post the filter yet. i wanna see if i can work some of those out first. basically, i threw out ALL of the fractal recursive stuff. that was slowing it down bigtime. btw, it wasnt really recursive, it was additive. FF cant do recursive. if you take just the parts that make the branches and the canopy and work with that, i think you'll figure out a way to do this better and faster. i love ...

  • Ideas for Filter Forge
... the user's machine would allow us to post the submissions instantly, without delay required for rendering (assuming that we remove the pre-approval process). And yes, I fully agree with you that people will think twice before submitting terribly slow filters when they are rendered on their own machine.

  • Large Pixel Non-Tiling Render Problem (60k x 36k)
... weird, unoptimal stuff going on. Partially because not everyone's on the same technical spec level with an ideal filter. It's not to say all filters likewise are slow, but it highly depends on the method used by the author which can lead to fast or slow filters. I'd be able to help you out here with finding these kinds of things out. 2. I often render just "base level" elements of the filter. In other words, I look in a filter and judge which layers are creating the bulk of the effect and which ones are doable in Photoshop (or whatever program you're using). Of course the convenience ...

  • Single Image Stereogram by GXPILOT
Author: Sjeiti. But they do slow your filter down. Your default preset takes about five minutes to render completely, and that's mostly because of the anti-aliasing (1:45 without). The spin-off I posted takes about 40 seconds (12 without anti-aliasing). That is about eight times faster. I not only re-routed the cube and sphere. First I removed ...

  • Hundred year old Oak by Tinker
Author: Tinker. Thanks, Redcap! Im afraid its somewhat slow with high anti-alliasing and occlusion settings, and sorry for grainy render with submit wizard. But with higher settings it looks quite ok for me. Check this test Vray render with exported color, occlusion and height maps. Hope you like it :)

  • Paint HDRtist: How long to render?
... available cpu. It usually take a few minutes for the preview. Thanks again. Daniel Paxton "With this 3872 x 2592 and the Paint HDRtist filter it can´t never take more than one hour (unless it was a very slow computer), Filter Forge may be very slow sometimes and you ahve to wait a lot but would never take 24 hours to make a result and even much less that it had a 30% render result in 24 hours if the progress bar hasn't appeared to move forward is because something has happened in the computer and have entered probably an infinity loop, and the only possible thing is to restart it and try again. Does this happens ...

  • Rendering Speed Classification on Filter Details page?
