  • Suggestion to give to new filters a Speed render level rating or mark
Author: GMM. SpaceRay, you should probable define what is "slow" :) If a filter renders in 0.01 seconds and another one renders in 1 second the first one is really 100 times faster – but does it make any sense to the end user?

  • The DOs and DON'Ts of Filter Construction
Author: Vladimir Golovin. Note that the jagged edges in the buffered version can be remedied by turning on anti-aliasing for sources of bitmap-based components (Tools > Options > Rendering). However, this can considerably slow the rendering down, thus negating the benefits of buffering. Here's the filter:

... the other). Also you might be able to extract blur/highpass/sharpen from just one if the settings are close, check out this article (http://www.filterforge.com/wiki/index.php/Filter_Construction:_Blur_Lore). "Moss wrote: You guys must have slow computers because my render times compared to Sphinx's are 5 seconds and 27 seconds. Turning off the antialiasing on mine only drops it to 24 seconds. " I'm on the studio computer now (quadcore, 4gig): 3.2s (sphinx) vs 1.20m (original) vs 17s (original, no aa). Strange ...

  • Rendering Speed Classification on Filter Details page?
... complexity and rendering performance? This is especially interesting for textures, since these tend to be more visually complex than effects. Looking at the visually complex, high-detail textures on the library, some would certainly be categorized as slow performers. However, their visual appeal might make render-time considerations largely irrelevant. You might just need a few of these rendered out, so you don't care: you're going all out high-detail. Where do you draw the line? And what do we desire for the filter library? It's really a dilemma. On my last filter I tested both a low and high global detail version. Just removing ...

  • Slow.. slow... slow...
Author: emme. "MuseMary wrote: 2021- FF 10- Super Long Rendering Just bought the FF 10. The rendering takes hours!!!!! I love filter forge, though the adminstration MUST fix this issue and post current instructions for settings ASAP to help with slow rendering, until there is a fix!" Can you provide some more detailed info? Filter(s), rendering settings, image resolution, hardware, CPU usage?

  • The reason why new filters became less common
Author: SpaceRay. I do not think that this is the reason because for me the rendering of the 9 presets needed only takes a few seconds to render the 9 presets, so I do not know how you can say that it takes forever for each preset to render. Could it be that you have a very old and slow computer ?

  • Bomber+ is very slow compared to reg bomber
Author: Skybase. I have a gut feeling the Mac version is actually faster than the Windows version. Given all your results. I got a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) with 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7... using the bomber plus slow filter on the latest FilterForge pro.... All anti-alias off, no render passes, default 600x600 renders.... Regular bomber render time: 0.62 seconds Bomber+ render time: 1.39 seconds

  • Rendering Speed FF5; iMac Retina
Author: Skybase. "So regretably you have to have a huge patience with FF with the filters that are more slow, and is not only to render the final image, also happens the same many times just for the 600x600 preview while experimenting with the settings " I feel like part of the "slow" issue is the way you use FilterForge. A lot of times, it becomes this one-stop-shop ...

  • Colorful Concentric Circles by DJI
Author: DJI. Well folks. I've added a shadow but it does slow the render and save time down by a little over a minute. :( Here's the defualt prest without the shadow. :)

  • Peach Fuzz by Firemup
Author: Vladimir Golovin. Firemup, the rendering speed is very slow, and the controls are impossible to decipher -- for example, both Color controls don't seem to affect anything.

  • notification of approved filters
Author: Vladimir Golovin. Seems that we have some problems with the library server -- tried to render some of the submitted filters, and it is really slow. Still trying.

  • Please, anyone have Mac Pro 12 cores to make a filter forge benchmark?
Author: SpaceRay. "Totte: Baah! The "Slow elapsed time" seems to be buggy in 3.0. When I render a 4000x4000 to disk, the elapsed time shows the time it took to render the preview after the render was done" This happens only when you have the "reduced" preview activated instead of the "Actual" preview, so whatever ...

  • wonder if it works any quicker then before?
Author: SpaceRay. I have to say that one of the main reason I do not keep working with Filter Forge, is that the render speed are mostly slow, unless you make simple photographic effects or use images lower than 2000 or 3000 pixels "Curious if they did any essential advancement in that field since version 3? " Please, see the Vladimir quote below and the links below ...

  • Crumpled Paper by Crapadilla
Author: Crapadilla. Alright. Update submitted. The slow rendering speed was due to various noises with high roughness and detail being fed into a dreaded highpass node. I added a "Details" slider to better control the rendering speed while still allowing for high detail if needed. The default ...

  • Making trees -- any ideas?
... approach this task? So far, I've attempted to grow a tree in a fractal fashion. Apart from being painfully slow, the experiment started to have a life of its own, so I figured I'll throw a render in here -- this one I called Fractal Mystique. (Renders way too slow to become a usable filter yet, but maybe something will yet become of it.) The main problem seems to be making the branching pattern, which is why I was going the fractal route. I had no luck with noises as I always got closed shapes (variations ...

  • Waiting on long filter processing. Force Quit or wait?
Author: Retoucherpro. I find that FF is just plain slow period. Rarely does it use more than 12% of my cpu's or even touch ram. Being a "resolution" independent filter it should be able to utilize extra cpu AND ram if its available for rendering at higher dpi(ppi). Heck even at 100ppi I have to wait hours for the majority of filters, never mind at print resolution. With 26 gigs of ram and 2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon and it STILL never goes over 12% cpu theres an issue that needs ...

  • Have anyone here used the Mandelbulber software ? Spectacular results
... scripting bugs" Have you implemented it inside Filter Forge as a filter ?????   but it is dead slow :D :D Of course because many of this kind of fractal software depend very much on the GPU to have a good speed, and as ... ....com/forum/lmessages.php?webtag=MOI&msg=4094.1 " The more power your GPU has, the the better/faster a final image can be rendered. • Image to Texture by Boogie Jack
Author: EAdams. Thank you for this wonderful filter! It is extremely useful for making texture backgrounds to blend with images. It is indeed slow to render, but definitely worth the wait!!

  • Ivy by Sharandra
Author: CDL. :ff: GREAT filter but I do wish it was a bit faster. Even with the shadow off it is sooo slow to render. :hammer: Still love the images it produces! :loveff: Thanks!

  • speed issue on user side
Author: Vladimir Golovin. "Kraellin wrote: like 'Crysta'" Plus, Crysta is a *very* slow filter -- any filter that uses noises other than Perlin renders slowly.
