  • Non-render
Author: SpaceRay. I think that what is weird with this problem is not that FF may be slow rendering, is that it STOPS at 25% and does not continue rendering.

  • Workspace Rendering Times
... "Vladimir Golovin wrote elsewhere (http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=10&TID=4463&MID=45700&phrase_id=689546#message45700): This would require at least one conditional jump in the innermost cycle, which we definitely wouldn't like -- it will slow the rendering down for everyone, even for people who have the console turned off. " So, the idea was to provide a separate executable (say 'FilterForgeDiagnostics.exe Vs. FilterForge.exe) that features render diagnostics. According to Vladimir this ...

  • Stitched Up by Mongoose King
... second preset. It takes maybe 7 or 8 minutes to completely render. Then everything after that just seems to shut it down. It just sets there. I can't figure out why this is doing this. I don't have trouble with other filters this way even the really slow filters render faster than this. Do you think I may have a corrupt download? Maybe I'll try deleting the filter and re-installing it. I'll try that and get back to you. ;)

  • Crashing the Submission Wizard
... knowledge I created a very easy to render filter that should submit but this one also crashes FF during the submission process....Its just a profile grad turned into an animated surface filter.....Once you try to submit this filter the first preset should render slow and then the crash happens right before the second preset starts..... using the latest version of FF and windows10.....

  • Bomber feature request -- particle size > 100
Author: Vladimir Golovin. "ThreeDee wrote: Or the size could be made relative to the full image size, not the repeat square size. Understandably this would slow down rendering. Or there could be a checkbox option to make it relative to the full image OR relative to the repeat square. " Both are good ideas. Yes, this will severely slow down rendering. "BenBeckwith wrote: I also wish there was a ...

  • a seemingly Basic feature is missing. Pause / Resume
Author: SpaceRay. Yes! This could be a very good and useful idea, because FF takes almost all the CPU usage and leaves very little to do any other thing while rendering a very long render, specially one that can take many hours and even days on a very slow filter, high resolution and maybe slow computer. As you say, is a basic and simple feature that seems that nobody (neither myself) has tought about it, and I agree that would be good to have and think that would be easy to add as a feature. ...

Very slow render which seems re-render the whole graph once I touch any minor setting. It makes any little tweak time consuming and annoying. Would be so much easier if it re-render only necessary nodes. " There has been a LOT of threads (http://filterforge....

  • just a general Kudos here
Author: Firemup. Yes I did. I believe the # of components used causes slow rendering. I noticed yesterday evening with less components used in creating a new filter it rendered at lightning speed.

  • Please, anyone have Mac Pro 12 cores to make a filter forge benchmark?
Author: Totte. Baah! The "Slow elapsed time" seems to be buggy in 3.0. When I render a 4000x4000 to disk, the elapsed time shows the time it took to render the preview after the render was done, will try to test with disabled "Render smaller previews" to see if it helps.

  • I want a benchmark.
... another 10 hours of development time into community filters if it's always going to be a crap-shoot as to if it will be acceptable. What would be really helpful is for FF to post a filter for developers. One that you considered to be as complex and slow rendering as you would be willing to accept as a submission. Developers could download this benchmark filter and render it. Everyone will have a different render time of course, but it doesn't matter, since the rule would be simple. If your own filter ...

  • Render Speed
Author: meyendlesss. "StevieJ wrote: Well....it would take a day or two to render a max resolution image in FF using a slow filter.....so I don't think you want to tie up your machine like that.....but thanx for the offer..... " What's a 'slow' filter? Seriously... I'll try one at max res. I regularly tie up my machine for stuff like this. I'm curious to see ...

  • Some FF6.0 Impressions and Speed Tests
Author: Indigo Ray. I just rendered the default preset of "Blocky" by Vlad (a slow filter because of Ambient Occlusion) at 2000x2000. FF5, FF6 x86, and FF6 x64 rendered in almost exactly the same time. There was no reduction in rendering time. :?:

  • Waiting on long filter processing. Force Quit or wait?
... Filter Forge is still slow as molasses. I've read through several threads that attempted to address this issue (all the way back to 2008!), but all I've found were excuses or personal battles and arguments on semantics. Why is Filter Forge agonizingly slow when rendering? I think this software has really great attributes, but the speed in which it renders is a dealbreaker. I just can't do this anymore. This issue needs to be addressed at the engineering level and I'm puzzled as to why a fix hasn't been created ...

  • Sharing Noise
Author: Skybase. Casual Pixels, that's a great little story. Back in college when I was doing all sorts of 3D stuff using Maya and MentalRay, I realized a bunch of crowds were claiming MentalRay was a slow render engine. In my head I typically think "well what could I do better?" so my immediate response was make MentalRay run at the speed of light. The process of speeding renders up takes a bit of care of the scene, optimization, and tinkering ...

  • NEED FOR SPEED!!! :)
... to what the graphics cards use? It seems like a crying shame that some filter concepts are unusable because they are so slow. For example, CF's "Leafs" is an excellent new concept with all kinds of potential.....but it is excruciatingly slow to use..... A lighting overhaul used to be at the top of my FF wishlist.....but as my own filters are becoming more complex.....rendering speed is now clearly at the top.... :)

  • The Devil's Net by Ramlyn
Author: siSINka. It's interesting rendering of some presets is very slow (i5-6800k, 16GB RAM, nV1070Ti/8GB VRAM). Is it because I have (Options - Rendering) Temporary files location on HDD (7200) instead SSD?

  • Rendering Speed FF5; iMac Retina
Author: jvansyckle. Does anyone other than me find many of the filters render unbearably slowly on Mac? I'm using the latest version of FF5, but this has been true for awhile through several versions.... ... I guess I could name the ones that run reeeeeaaaly slowly, but just in general I find all but the most basic filters pretty slow. I'm not running slow hardware by any means - Mac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014); 4 GHz Intel Core i7; 24 GB 1600 MHz DDR3; ...

  • Filter Forge 11 not showing up in PS CC2022 filters?
... and CPU load max 40 %, still nothing happens, tried different filters... When standalone FilterForge with same filters takes 10. 15 se for the same generated image size.." Some filters are pretty slow especially the older filters. The blurs are slow.... You could also try adjusting the rendering options and see what works best. Its under tools-options in the menu bar. Then select the rendering tab.

  • Adobe is making their own "Filter Forge" with Pixel Bender engine?
... slowness and lack of organization. I'm also not a fan of the lack of quality in the online library with all the low use filters one must sift through to find something that's up to snuff. Then, half the time, when I find something I can use, it's so slow that I end up deleting it from my downloads and use Genetica instead. Despite claims of greater quality of the rendered image, if it is in fact true, the 45 minutes plus that it takes to render a tile or the ridiculous amount of time it take to preview any change to a setting (on a decent Quadcore PC) renders FF unusable for me in 99% of the times I might use ...

  • Shadows
... before, though it's probably low-precision and requires directional lighting. Search for "Steep Parallax Mapping". It might also be possible to convert the height map into geometry and take a more 3D approach. How slow is "terribly slow"? If there were just a shadows checkbox (disabled by default) that you could turn on, then walk off and render it overnight, that wouldn't bother me too much...
