I still suppose something in your system got cached incorrectly. Please do that once again:
- remove the ffxml file from the My Filters folder;
- start Filter Forge and check the filter doesn't show on the filter list;
- close Filter Forge and copy the ffxml file back;
- run Filter Forge and check if it helped.

Author: ktvd. GMM- a little more info. I couldn't download, but I could browse the site for filters. I found a "cow" filter numbered #804. I referenced that number to filters on the disk I had purchased and found it. I pulled the Library_804-1.ffxml into the library of filters on my Mac that began with Library_208-2.ffxml. Back into Photoshop, the filter did not show up. So I closed and started again with a new file. Still no filter. I'm sure it is an easy fix - I just don't see it.

VARIATION global is broken

Unable to set rendering storage while rendering is in progress (rendering manager 04974968).
At a second attempt it would load fine, move file off your system Spinx & you'll see.
"Broken VARIATION.ffxml" must not be present in your filters and FF should be closed to reproduce this error.
Then click your own posted "Broken VARIATION.ffxml"
I generated a report for this error.

If you have right-clicked and 'saved as...', It will be a xml file, so, rename the extension to ffxml. If you've just clicked on the link and opened that in your browser and you saw that huge code, just save It from your browser with File/Save as... Don't forget to keep as ffxml extension.
Now close your Filter Forge and click twice on the file ...

You could do the fleur de lis. You could use a truncated spiral. It would be much better with bombers, though (means wait for FF2.0)

and no, it doesnt refresh the list by double clicking on the .ffxml file in windows explorer. what it tries to do is start another copy of FF and you get a message saying that there is already another copy running and shuts the 2nd one down.

... of the software is devoted to list and search through the filters library; part of the software is devoted to displaying the input controls that define the filter parameters and preview the effect. And finally, part of the software is devoted to run ffxml instruction through FF image processing engine on a file.
All the above (but the very last part) is totally unnecessary and can be shaved off, if just the image processing engine is to be exported/bundled with the ffxml instruction as a PS plugin....

Author: Crapadilla. I guess I have to clarify. I like CTRL+S. I use it early, I use it often. :)
Still, CTRL+S doesn't help if FF crashes WHILE saving, which has occured several times for me. During the crash, the ffxml file is overwritten and becomes unusable, an empty file of 0 bytes size, and FF will crash at start up until I delete it.
So, if I hadn't wisely backed up my ffxml files MANUALLY after the first incident of this kind, I would have lost my work ...
