No, Filter Forge doesn't use the filename. To rename the filter, you should edit its .ffxml file. Filters are saved in XML, so you can open and edit them in any text editor.
Question about reporting errors

1. Select the filter in the Main Window
2. Choose "Filter > Locate File" from the menu (or press Ctrl+L)
3. A Windows Explorer will open and show you where the file is
4. Attach that file to this thread

All it does is read the FFXML files to extract info from them.
The first released version stored the catalog in an XML file, but that was changed to a binary storage file (You remember, when you lost your catalog :| ).
The program was written in C#.

The question I have is how to I install a filter NOT directly from FF's website, but rather as a .ffxml file sitting on my desktop?
Van Gogh filter crashes
Author: Daniel Sroka. Hi Darrell. Hate to say it, but I'm still getting the same problem: crash as soon as FF tries to render. I've deleted the original filter file, and re-downloaded it twice (Library_9817-2.ffxml) in both FF2 and FF3b, and get the same results.

it also got me wondering how ffxml files would transport into something like VB6. anyone know?

Author: Bella. We've sorted it out. This is the expected behaviour of the program in a situation when a file is renamed while Filter Forge is running.
It is strongly recommended to avoid renaming ffxml files manually. To change the name of a filter, better use the Filter > Edit Filter Info option in Filter Editor. The filename is then changed automatically.
Finding Out Filter Name via The Number?

I know how to find out what a particular filter's corresponding number is (via "find filter")
Is there any way to do the reverse? Find out what the filter name is if I have the ffxml number?
Can' download filters
... may be still in the same spot but in IE choose "Internet Options"......Then choose to associate a file type with a program..(it may be something different in win8)...A window similar to this will pop up..
Look for the highlighted below....ffxml should be associated with filter forge...
Other sites with FF filters?

I have already searched if there could be alternative filter forge fan forums or websites that could also have filters or information about FF and I have not found any, I only found reviews and tutorials about FF but no filters. Searching for .ffxml in google only gives results of this forum.
