  • I want a benchmark.
... rendering job was moved to the submitter's computer. Maybe the whole reason for it was rather so the users don't complain about long rendering times. But on the other hand it makes us authors angry. Since there still is such rejections, a benchmark filter ... ... us filter authors to learn speed tricks. Ian, your "100 Year Old Tugboat" filter looks great, but holy crap it's SLOW! I'm sure there's a way to speed up the filter you're trying to submit now. Heck, just get Sphinx's attention and you'll ...

  • FF is slow and tired of waiting? Get the new AMD 64 cores computer now
... set it up, I can take render times down to 10 seconds on the same render engine. I have to because I don't want to waste time rendering scenes too! (Note that's a ridiculous example. I'd tell you realistic numbers after my testing / observation phase.) ... ... So when I see 32 cores I'm going "pssh... you making a one-man Transformers film? Is this a new first-world issue? Slow computers and the desire for higher quality stuff cheap?" :p Well, I let my ego speak. And this is what happens....

  • PROS and CONS of Filter Forge - What is good and bad about it ?
...,000 pixels, 16-bit & 32-bit images. Filter Forge is a Photoshop Plug-in and a standalone application. The Help feature is very informative but, is NOT available in pdf format. Cons: There is NO extension panel for Photoshop CS4 users. Filter rendering time can be slow, especially with large images or complex filters selection. You can only apply one filter at a time to an image; it would be practical if filters could be applied one after the other without saving the image first or going back to the image editor....

  • Future Fiction Tech Panels
... Blackney. "GMM wrote: This is another manifestation of this issue. Sorry, Mike, you'll probably have to reupload the filter once we fix everything." That makes sense - I did have quite a bit of trouble submitting it! But it's also quite slow to render, so I thought that might be an issue. Either way, I want to just share it in case anyone gets a kick out of it :)

  • Suggest a new filter.
Author: Erik Pedersen. Hi Skybase, I have made some via Photoshop. I wouldn't mind if a Filter Forge version were slow AT ALL if the results were anything like the sample I posted (colors too). I'm a 3D Render person - I often set the computer to doing something and then just go to bed (or work) and let it take as long as it takes. Wouldn't mind .. . . .s l o w . . . . . at all. ;)

  • Those Noise Addicts!
Author: Vladimir Golovin. "Sethren wrote: I use Allegorithmic MaPZoneFREE v1.7 as well. " Blur, sharpen, high pass, true seamless textures, speedy renders. The last one is perfectly reasonable since DarkTree renders three-dimensional procedurals, not bitmaps.

  • one filter is crashing photoshop
... have used it for quite a number of images for a client. I need (really need!) this one filter but it is crashing photoshop even though I have used it before. Any suggestions as to why this would happen? I know we are not supposed to complain about slow render times but this one filter does take often about an hour or longer to render if it works at all or just makes my hard drive spin, I then close everything out, restart and still the same. What am I doing wrong? An error report came up several ...

  • Hole in the Wall by LilBlueSmurf
Author: LilBlueSmurf. Yeah, I saw that one. I think mine is substantially different and has a much more realistic (IMO) look, which is why I made it. Rawn's is great for a more stylized look. And yeah, I'm sure yours renders faster, mine is really freaking slow right now (but I'm working on that). :( No hole is actually possible, it just wasn't a preset so maybe it's not obvious how, but I will include that in the update also.

  • Variable-Size Tessalation
... masking or selections inside filter forge :) " That lead to 9 minutes rendering times from 1-2 minutes. So I am strugling with some simplifying of the filter now...when that is done I will upload i"t. Wow this is very high increase in rendering time, are you using blur or some slow component to get what you want to make it better?

  • Rendering
Author: bobbijake. Thanks for the reply SpaceRay. I have been reading the forums for a couple of days now, so I know that Bad Allocation is a bug. I also see in the forums that with some files and some filters FF runs slow, but what I can't find is why I can't get it to work at all. I have been running a rendering all night and it is still going now, so obviously it is not going to work. I have tried three different filters and three different files with the same results. Each one receives the error message about 3/4 of the way through and after many ...

  • 3D Cubes backgrounds designs for inspiration and as suggestions
Author: SpaceRay. I have put this thread as a suggestion to make something similar inside Filter Forge and as a challenge, but suposse that it would be very difficult to make and slow to render the results. I have just discovered a very easy and fast way to make all this kind of beautiful 3D rendering in a 3D software like Cinema 4D Please see this other thread Cinema4D Mograph tutorials for making abstract art and use FF textures ...

  • Beta 5.0 Stage 2 Teaser?
... to simulate easy 3D surfaces ( spheres, cubes, etc. ). Now we can do something similar with some filter but the filters are slow and the results aren't always good. We know that FF isn't a 3D graphic program, but adding just some basic component could ... ... make better and faster filters. " Ramlyn, technically, Filter Forge's architecture is very similar to a ray-tracing renderer, so it should be capable of rendering 3D objects (as our example raytracer filter shows). The problem is not the rendering,...

  • Resource Leak
Author: CFandM. I have experience this myself with the choppy mouse and the errors. Just today..But only in FF..Running XP..Also running FF in stand alone.. The filter I was working on was a new 3d filter thats kinda big and slow..I was rendering a decent size picture. When it was almost complete I stopped the render then tried to open another pict which did not load but gave me the "not enough resources" warning..Then I tried to quit FF but it gave me the Insufficient system ...

  • Filter Forge 11 Released
Author: SpaceRay. "Vladimir Golovin wrote: Of course the Play button is a must-have, but we currently don't have it because of the fact that rendering can be slow, so we can't guarantee smooth playback." Good to know that a play button will be added although I think that we may have to wait until December 2022 to have it in FF 12, or I am wrong and we could see it in FF 11?

  • eclipse
... hubble pics look that bad ?! Wow, more tax money wasted etc. I kind of like the neon-ish asteroids, although they are kinda blurry, not much I can do about that without losing other aspects of the look yet. And, now with the asteroids and whatnot, the render is slowed down some, it was like 4 seconds. jffe

  • Renderosity MarketPlace & FF library textures?

  • Gold Rush by Carl
Author: ronviers. "Looking forward to it" It was rejected due to render time :( – and rightfully so. It was just too darn slow. It had a 23 minute render time on my machine 3.6GHz/4GB/2CHT. I designed it in stages and only plugged it in at the end so the render time surprised even me. I though it might have a niche though. I considered reworking it but if I do the things necessary to speed it up ...

  • Slow.. slow... slow...
Author: Rachel Duim. Try this: set Anti-Aliasing to Off. This should improve your render times. When the output is done, you can put it into FXAA (https://www.filterforge.com/filters/12762.html) for some anti-aliasing.... ... Should save you time. I am a Mac user as well, I have the mid-2015 version of the MacBook Pro and it is faster. But this is a slow filter, so try this out and let me know how it goes.

  • The Orange Head
.... More than one, Shar. The fur uses one bomber for color and a second almost-identical bomber for depth shading (the tip of each hair is more exposed to light than the base). In addition, the jaguar pattern itself uses a third bomber. You can expect render speeds to be on the slow side (~2 minutes for my quadcore i5). No promises about submitting or posting the filter. Another pic. Guess which animal this is... ;)

  • I need someone's help.
Author: rgoer. ok, haha, I managed to get a Sobel normal calculation working, sort of, and it only takes 2 whole minutes to render! haha if anybody wants to take a look at the filter, it is attached--there is a good chance that something isn't (or ... ... filter optimization goes, it's kind of a brute-force deal... I think I even skipped doing the normalization because it was so slow, haha
