There is something important you have not told, and is HOW to load the filters inside your tool, I mean how to import the FFxml files.

New problem: FF2 stuck on bad filter-keeps crashing...
... WANTS TO OPEN WITH!!
So....... Filter Forge CAN'T OPEN!
I can't delete the filter because it crashes before it can even open.... AND all the filters in the library have NO NAMES!... Just wonderfully vague designations such as "Library_3623-1.ffxml".... (ooooh yeah, good ol' "Library_3623-1.ffxml"... yeah, I know that one....)
New Problem caused by the above problem:

Author: GMM. Feel free to use any Filter Forge textures and effects for any commercial purposes. Filter authors hold the copyright to the filter files proper (.ffxml files), while the copyright to the final images rendered in Filter Forge belongs to the end user, that is you.

Everything before the switch is the interesting part... especially the red part. Tweak the curves and phases to adjust the 'pipes'.
Everything after the switch is really just assigning materials....
Great filters hiding in the forums
Author: Morgantao. It would take me about 5000 years to sift through the forums one by one, scrolling down untill I find a download link.
That's why I used google, so each link is an FFXML file. But stupid google only gives me a mere taste. :(
I want a benchmark.
... if i'm remembering correctly, the criteria was a filter had to render within 15 minutes on a single core, 1 ghz machine.
also, altruistic donations of filters can also be done through the forums here. just upload it like you would an image. the .ffxml filetype is recognized in the forums.

Author: Vladimir Golovin. JFYI: renaming .ffxml files in My Filters folder doesn't affect anything, because the filter name is stored within the file in an XML tag. To change the filter name, you must change it in the XML code, and using the Editor is the best way to do this.

Opening a filter in earlier version
Author: threedee. I occurred to me to try this, and it worked, at least in the one case I did it...
Editing the major and minor version numbers in the ffxml file allowed me to open a version 8 filter in version 7.
Only took me 11 years to discover.
Is this allowed ?

Cannot reproduce: I have all versions since FF1 installed, and double-clicking an ffxml file opens the filter in FF4. Please provide more detail and post the filter in question.
Filter FACTORY PRESETS Found a way to delete, modify and change order
Author: Morgantao. SpaceRay, I haven't read the whole thing yet, but I can tell you that you probably shouldn't bother.
It's just like going in the FFXML file of a filter to add your own keywords.
Next time you download filters the changes you make will just be reset. :(

For unknown reasons, the association of .ffxml files to FilterForge is lost once in a while. Just hit that button whenever it happens , and go on ;)

Author: Carl. It seem the files association is screwed - ffxml file type to open in a default program don't even show up :( Crichton you can download filter using the obsolete library, Tools > Options > Online > built-in-library browser ............ at least you can still get filters this way ;)

Color Change 2.ffxml is excellent. The gray is helpful.
Also I am learning how to use FF and this filter and this has been helpful.
The time factor was not all that bad. I go thru many
attempts in FF by the random button than to fine tune.
