  • Just slow...........
Author: Bob Nolin. I've downloaded the demo of 2.0, and sure enough, it seems just as slow as ever. Click on a "preset" and it can take 5 minutes for the preview to finish rendering. Why this isn't stored as a JPEG that loads instantly is a mystery to me. I see it's using 3 or 4 CPUs in my Mac Pro 8 core tower. Just rendering a preset raises the CPU temperature 10 degrees Fahrenheit, to 97F. Just to look at a preset. ...

... excellent prototyping tool -- it allows to focus on the algorithm and eliminates the need to code all the necessities first (rendering code etc etc). Plus, it already has many well-known image processing algorithms implemented as components. "There ... ... winner." Hehe -- fully agree with this :D "CONS: None that cannot be fixed in the release version. Perhaps it is slow on some complex filters. " Regarding the speed -- yes, Filter Forge can be slow on some filters. On the other side,...

Author: jffe. "Aurum wrote: It's too bad it's so slow. I'm not very proficient at making fast rendering filters; I just don't know what to do. • FF Keeps telling me to Download the New Update
... lower version new) I don't usually render higher than 3000x3000 I often make my own bump maps and rarely need normal maps The workflow did not change much, it still always need to render every edit made I only have dual core and find the rendering slow as it is The new features are quite cool so i am interested in upgrading to v2 but i would actually be fine with V2 standard, the reply seems like it won't be a option though.

... the feathering you were hoping for. However, the stroke can now be further adjusted by manipulating the stroke thickness and opacity as well. I removed the pigment noise settings because they really didn't add anything to the filter and needlessly slowed rendering times.

..., OR have some kind of big improvement in the render speed in whatever way, it would be the greatest reason to upgrade and would sky rocket the sales of FF and it would be much more popular, as it is recognized as an awesome and amazing software BUT slow to render and also to preview any changes you make in the settings There are some software that have added GPU acceleration only to the preview so you can have the modification of the settings in realtime, but then later when render the final image result,...

  • CPU Limiter?
... take up to 3X as long on really heavy duty filters if you don't use your max-ram (cause then I believe it has to do all that page file swapping hard drive crap, and even though I don't technically understand how that works, I do know it causes major slowness as everything bottlenecks from lack of ram to juggle the math bits around in etc.). "James wrote: Is there anyway to make it not use 99% (limit cpu) because it sort of destroys my computer while it's rendering " ----Kind of. Get a better computer ha-ha. Since I got a Core2Duo set up, I can render and still watch 'House" reruns with hardly any glitches at all, unlike with my old 2.4Ghz singlecore P4 unit, it would not allow for much ...

... for many times before, though not quite in the style you present. I think displaying the amount of time EACH COMPONENT adds is useful information for filter makers like me, considering many of the online filters beg for optimization. I know this would slow down the rendering times, so there needs to be an option to turn this feature off.

... render, it just takes about 20-60 seconds. " ----On a few occasions it has taken nearly as long to save as it did to render. In most cases it takes a little over half as long, which translates to about 2-3 minutes now on my new dualcore. • FF3 Program Soooo Slow
... starts to 'fill-in' each element of the GUI. When that is finished, it is then a matter of luck as to whether or not it opens up to the last filter I was working with or some other filter I had accessed during the last session. NOTE - the filter render speed itself seems to be fine but that may be only because everything else is so slow. When I click on another filter or category to sel ect it, the program - once again - has to think about things for a long time before anything starts happening and it then has to slowly refresh the Presets/Settings tabs once it has decided to ...

  • Free Polygon / Integer slider error.. (or stupid user?)
... own. Of course those 1 and 2 sided Polygos are a bit odd, but that's not your (or mine) fault :) I have to think about this one. To use it or not. I kinda hate the duplications on those FreePolygon -components, even though these most likely do not slow the rendering noticeably.

  • High Res Optimization???
Author: jffe. I don't run any anti-virus stuff cept WinXp's built in fire-wall. For the most part I just shut everything off cept like yahoo chat, the internet and maybe winamp or wmp to listen to some music or watch videos while stuff renders, and wmp seems to slow it down 5% or so, but the vids don't lag and jitter anymore with the dualcore at least. :) jffe

  • Mud splatter by ThreeDee
Author: Crapadilla. Nice! You're on the fast-lane with your effects portfolio, eh? ;) :D A small thought on render performance: You could approximate the result of the slow HighPass by blending the two Noise Distortions (Normal blend mode, 50%) and subsequently blending that result over a 50% grey Background of another Blend component (also set to Normal blend mode, say 25%). This would be much faster on the Height ...

  • Possible way to speed things up on user side
Author: Kraellin. vladimir, yes, i found that out; just change a setting and things start rendering all over again. that's fine. what i'm talking about is the initial FF bootup. since your default filter is one of those very slow texture filters, this is adding a LOT of unnecessary time in loading up FF. stick a blank image in there as the default at startup. that's all. craig

  • 8.003 Editor crashes a lot
... FF versions need a lot of memory when rendering a filter. I also checked that, rendering the same filter, both versions of FF use about the same amount of memory. The main difference seems to be that, when FF7 reaches a peak of memory use, the rendering slows down, but FF doesn't crash. Instead when FF8 reaches a peak, the speed doesn't decrease, but FF crashes. Could this be the problem?

  • FF3.0 Q&A: Progressive Preview
... filter i create need with 4 pass 43 sec and with no pass 5.5 sec.So i use always nopass. And peview size is always actual. Is it possible that FF can support 4 cores for the effect ? On my I5 760 the default setting with multipass preview is very slow. when i show the whole picuture with zoom to fit, always need 5.5 sec, because the full image is render.the 4 pass effect is not better, can it here it render only the visible pixel in preview and later it can render the rest. because visible pixel on preview are in the preview area only 700*540.so a preview can faster be here.is there a better ...

  • Gosper Island Challenge
Author: ThreeDee. I got it working up to 8th iteration. At these render sizes you don't see much difference after the 6th. (8 iterations + antialiasing + old laptop = slow bullet) Unless my computer blows up before it, I'll post 7th iteration with 9x9 antialiasing. I mean it literally: This old laptop overheats and shuts itself off if I run it close to 100% CPU for any extended periods.

  • Problem Importing Filters
Author: James. Oh i should probably add why i want to do this maybe, basically this computers very very slow and freezes up when i have FF open and it's trying to reder the texture, it would be great if we could turn the automatic rendering as i think that would solve my problem of opening filters up in the actual program rather than saving to desktop in mozilla.
