  • Wallpaper Group 9 c2mm by Rick Duim
... groups do not work so well with photos, so I may have a different interface, will have to see how the technical part works out. And the higher groups with hexagonal tiling are trickier yet, to tile in a square (or a rectangle) is possible, but will be a challenge. Also, there will be an update of the filter tonight with xirja's speed improvement added in 8) 4 or 5 times faster.

  • DIY Flat Tiling (The power of curves)
... Valdimir and the guys 'n girls hadn't put in all those blue curve thingies just to look pretty. They are not at all intuitive - sometimes giving a quite unexpected reponse - but I'm sure that there's a lot of power hidden in there. I set myself a challenge of doing a Flat Tiling Filter using curves. Thanks to, or in spite of, a couple of beers :D I finished it (see attachment), though tomorrow I'll probably kick myself when someone does the same thing with half the components. Hope you find ...

  • How can you control the distribution of the particles inside Bomber?
Author: Skybase. Well well well... you set yourself up for some quite a challenge. ThreeDee already provides us with a very simple method for inputting sentences. Basically we need a way to tile the text correctly based on string count. Then you can knock out the characters accordingly. And using the bomber to produce ...

... happen for a very long time.) So this "rust" filter would be probably better off as a texture than a "filter" but if anybody can come up with a way to deal with rusting across all sorts of photographs, I'd love to see it. :D haha Challenge!!

  • 3D Cubes backgrounds designs for inspiration and as suggestions
Author: SpaceRay. I have put this thread as a suggestion to make something similar inside Filter Forge and as a challenge, but suposse that it would be very difficult to make and slow to render the results. I have just discovered a very easy and fast way to make all this kind of beautiful 3D rendering in a 3D software like Cinema 4D Please see this other ...

  • Wireframe Sphere Challenge
... after seeing this last two examples I have just had the idea that the well done square could be filled with individual images, perhaps 5 images that could be repeated around the sphere squares. " Yes, that's pretty much the idea of the Level 2 challenge in the OP. "Skybase wrote: So when you assemble the shape, are you doing it in chunks (for example: produce one quarter of it and put it together) or do you process the entire shape all at once? " All at once from two gradients....

  • Multiple Adjustable Component Output ?
... how can I do that using only 1 blur ? Yeah, I already know, but this to get you all to think, and to maybe help us find a better way even. Assuming anyone replies/guesses/etc., I will post what I have found works in a day or two. Consider this a fun challenge maybe ? I don't think it's been discussed much, or else sorry if I just missed if it has. :) jffe

  • Electrical Field by Carl
... only do lightning to a limited degree... the problem seems to be the top to bottom tapering bias, branching and making it appear naturally going to a direction. I guess in some ways, it's like making an upside down tree branch generator -- certainly a challenge! Electricity isn't quite as direction based as lightning, but the arcing, attraction and form fitting factor is pretty difficult to emulate. This Filter has a lot of potential and promise! I look forward to seeing it's advance! ^_^

  • burn rubber by selmo
... FF is really cool, appealing to both the programmer and the artist in me. There's a certain kind of nerd-fun in thinking how one could assemble a filter to get the results you want. It doesn't always work exactly how I want it to, but it's still challenging and fun to tinker with.

  • Off the Deep End with ThreeDee
Author: CorvusCroax. "ThreeDee wrote: Here's that hexagonal tiling with random rotation, quantized to 60 degree increments. Keeping the scaling consistent with the rotated elements was quite a challenge. " Holy @#%! This is some some serious tricky business! Dude, you are truly the renegade master of the offset node. It's great that in the end, you just have a single (!) randomized offset, so it would be easy to make a series ...

  • Resolving percentage for 1 pixel width?
Author: ThreeDee. Hi Sphinx, I took up your challenge and made a slider-based solution for offsetting an image by pixel, which works in the image-size range of 10 to 1000 pixels. (I'm attaching the filter file here -- hopefully comes through) The user has to input the image size using a slider ...

  • Suggest a new filter.
Author: Skybase. Color has been a pretty big challenge with the reaction-diffusion patterns. For me at least. If you recall, the filter I posted a couple months ago basically gives you a super simple method in producing just the outlines of the reaction-diffusion pattern. Colors have been another ...

... rather alien concept to people used to working with layers. How to effectively use node-networks can best be studied by looking at filter internals themselves. You will see that different authors have very different ways of approaching visual problems/challenges and finding solutions...

  • Seeking Help: Scripting a Rotation or Angle Map Script
... useful variations. But, what I'm working with now is 3D noise. So, in that context, I'd really be trying to come up with rotation on x, y and z axes. That's probably too much to ask anyone to provide, however useful it'd be to me. If someone is up to the challenge, I'd love to see the example they'd come up with, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I'd still like to know how to do 2D rotation, but it's more of an academic interest now that I've looked into it a bit.

  • Is curious that in all these years nobody has done a sprinkle filter
... all these years and is the much used and very popular sprinkles that appear in all the cakes, deserts, pastries and many bakery product Just search in google for sprinkles and there are thousand of examples i think that I may try to make this a challenge, and do not feel frustated to do it as it has happened before, as this does not require a high FF knowledge to make it I hink using bomber And will try to make it even better if possible to have some 3D sprinkles and not just 2D plain ones,...

  • Suggest a new filter.
... that tight of textures separated out first. It's not something I'd even want a filter of ha-ha, but if someone made one that looked that insanely clear/good, that's skill, and $20 since I said it ha-ha. Speaking of all *this*, maybe we could do an FF challenge/contest later this year. Everyone who wanted to enter could put in $10, and winner take all after a set time for anyone to stop by that thread and vote. Just an idea. :) jffe

... changes). Giving away small prizes is really an inexpensive way of marketing. By making things revolve monthly, and only new submissions be elegible for that month's prizes (or some similar term) you create a monthly influx. By giving them themes and challenges, you entice even more people into participating (those which may be in a creative blank to come up with a theme of their own). I'm sure there's a finesse and legalities that need to be worked out to make something like that happen.. I'm ...

... have much of a sense of humor there. ;) That's a lot of work just to be disqualified. It was six disqualifications really but two were self imposed because I realized after the fact that I was not allowed to use a mask in the photo challenge so I had the entries removed.

  • Bark Challenge
Author: Sphinx.. Ok.. after submitting my second bark like filter, I thought I'd actually do some research.. and guess what.. my filters look nothing like tree bark (compared to the real thing.. my filters look like a bad worley accident!) Here are the direct links to the two filters: - Bark (http://www.filterforge.com/filters/4673.html) - Nature Textures (http://www.filterforge.com/filters/4815.html) It must be possible doing a better job on such a filter.. Can anyone do better? Check out...

... and thanks re retouch. great forum. the gallery stuff is really just a small part of what i've got hanging around there. lots of stuff in the art forums and restoration forum. that's where i mostly hang out. i moderate the restoration forum. yeah, the challenges are how i started there as well. we also have a monthly contest of a varied nature. and i think someone else suggested that sort of thing here. ahimsa, the link for retouch is: http://www.retouchpro.com you'll have to register to view the ...
