... priority) - Support for non-seamless filters. (Currently planned for version 2.0) Lighting & Shadows - Direct Lighting (Phong-based multiple point lighting). (Already there, but no UI) - Shadows via Ambient Occlusion. (Prototyped, but very slow) - Hard Shadows. (Unlikely, very expensive to render) Render Maps - Transparency map (Inverted Alpha). (Considered) - Export/save multiple render maps at once. (Planned) - Custom Render Maps. (Considered) PHOTOSHOP INTEGRATION - Support for more than one PS layer. (Not supported ...

  • How to effectively Bypass a component : On/Off
Author: TheBeat. I'm trying to figure out what the best and most efficient way is, to bypass a component. Example, somewhere at the end of a line there is a Blur component (slow component). Now I want the user be able to choose between going through the Blur component and bypassing the Blur component. With a switch between the Blur and the signal before the Blur it can be done, but the rendering time is equal in both cases, as the Blur is rendered anyway, even if not used after the Blur itself. I want to be able to bypass the Blur and at the same time not losing the rendering time for the Blur, as it is not used in 'bypass' configuration....

  • Filter image rendering times
... looks that is. Perfect question, it has happened to me sometimes that I see a really beautiful and interesting filter and it work well in a reasonable time with 600x600 but then I want to rise the resolution to 2400x2400 or 3000x3000 and it gets VERY slow and finally in the middle of the render I cancel it irregardless of how nice this is getting after about 20 minutes waiting. AND I have FF 3.007 and a very fast and new CPU - Intel i7 Sandybridge 2600K Quad Core 3.5Ghz so this is not the problem.

  • Is FF Slow ? Get a new Dual Socket 16 cores/32 Threads Intel CPU
... resolutions of 2000 x 2000 and will take MANY minutes to get the result done, and much more slower from 5000x5000 and reach up to 40 or 50 minutes or more. And not only the final result, the preview on many filters on reduced 600x600 view is ALSO SLOW As from the news available until now, FF Inc. will not improve the render engine speed and will not add GPU support, so it seems that future version will have the same speed as FF 3.0. So the only solution that is really possible is to upgrade the CPU and make it faster as FF is optimized to use the most of the CPU ...

  • Windows 7
Author: Kraellin. ok, i've installed the trial version of FF on the new rig and downloaded a couple filters i knew to be somewhat slow on my old rig. comparing the two rig render times is quite simply, amazing! the new rig is almost 10 TIMES FASTER! for the evergreen filter, my old rig renders the default at about 72 seconds. the new rig cranks it out at under 8 seconds! three dee's 'tree, summer' on the old renders in ...

  • Experiments by Ziggy
... my direction in life, wanting to post on here more often, at least document what I am learning. Changed my user also to match with my recent changes on insta. Here is a recent render. Been messing with loop transforming and the bomber. It was really slow to render out though. Might just be that I'm impatient though. Hope all are doing well!

  • FF to slowly, impossible
Author: GMM. I have checked with the support team: a reply was sent to you within one business day. Regarding rendering performance: Filter Forge is not slow. Please check this forum thread (https://www.filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=11020).

  • Latest Filters by Kevin
Author: Carl. are you planning to update filter as the tweak version is miles better :) Does this need to be a surface filter as it will slow render times down? just a slight note your better posting these sort of threads in "Creating Filters" :)

  • Wind Blur by Crapadilla
Author: Kraellin. ah, ok. thanks :) umm, actually, one last question on that. by adding all five like that, is that going to slow things down any in render time or are you just switching them and therefore no real loss of time?

  • Runny Water Abstract by CFandM
Author: CFandM. Thanks, the but I was waiting for. I tried different things to make it render faster. Different combos of components but none really produced the look that I was trying for. Hopefully with new updates to FF these slow filters will get a speed boost also. :)

  • Submissions, the revised version
... submit i cant find my submission" That's because of rendering. Before we can upload a filter to the filter library, we have to render its preview images (for the Filter Library and for the web page). And since many submitted filters are VERY slow, and the rendering is currently done on a single server, we can only upload 20-30 filters per day. We currently have 60 filters in the queue and this number keeps growing every day -- I'm afraid that at some point the number of submitted filters per day will ...

  • Shadows
Author: Vladimir Golovin. We already have the prototype code for shadows (via ambient occlusion, no bent normals yet) but it's terribly slow at the moment. This is not because of the code inefficiency -- the slowdown is caused by the fact that to render shadows for a single pixel we need to have an entire height map already rendered. Anyway, we'll keep working on this -- shadows are crucial for realism.

  • Ambient Occlusion and Anti-alias process
Author: Sphinx.. I have experienced some problems with ambient occlusion (direct sampling >= 1) when the anti-alias step kicks in during rendering. What happens is that the rendering slows down extremely or simply stalls (at 70-90%). The problem seem to be more likely when rendering big images, and also depends on how much else is going on on the computer. So I'm thinking it is related to available memory or something. I haven't ...

  • Need for GPU Compute support (CUDA or OpenCL)
... discounts and would earn much more money as many people would be really interested to use FF, specially for professional and business, where time is golden and means money, and they can not spend so much time waiting for the slow preview of FF or the mostly slow render. The bad news is that it seems that when FF was made ten years ago, was not thought from start to make it possible to be compatible in the future with GPU, and now seems that they can not do nothing "easy" to add this option, and ...

  • Wooden house gen by dactilardesign
Author: dactilardesign. Thank you Skybase. Already uploading an update for better color control on painted frames. I want to wanr again: this is really slow to render! If someone has an idea to improve the performance, I would be really pleased to hear.

  • Generate Backgrounds Surface by ronviers
Author: ahimsa. Is there a fast way to load the settings and without it trying to resave the filter? This version is slow rendering like a few of mine. Wonder if there is a way for me to do a simple version one to go with them and have them work.

  • Blurring a noise with another noise
Author: Vladimir Golovin. "uberzev wrote: or does this operation present mathematical armageddon" The short answer is Yes :) The variable-radius blur is very slow because we can't use optimizations we use for fixed-radius blurs, and the rendering time increases exponentially as the picture size grows.

  • Textiler by LM.SK
Author: Vladimir Golovin. I'm not sure why do you need a HighPass before Blur -- this slows the rendering and has no visible purpose. Also, the Surface Height was too big, this would result in bad normal maps. Here, I've modified the filter a bit:

  • Features i would like to see..
Author: angelboiii. Hi! After using Filter Forge for few days now, here are things that i would like to see in future updates (in this otherwise excelent software!!!).. RENDER REGION.. My textures get really slow really quick.. i know that with clever use of nodes it would be posible to use only half of what i have, and it would render twice as fast.. but im not clever :) After i connect everything its time for tweaking.. and it gets tedious to wait for preview ...

  • Slow rendering
... I also suggest manually going in and optimizing the filter itself. Which is tricky. There's a tendency for novice filter authors to leave a bunch of slow-moving, unoptimized loads of stuff in filters. These things can sometimes lead to extremely slow renders.
