  • Please, any expert that want to optimize this filter for higher speed?
Author: SpaceRay. I have seen this very good filter BUT is VERY SLOW and can ONLY be used at 600 x 600 Ink ghosts http://filterforge.com/filters/10137.html This ONLY works well for 600 x 600 , if you try to make a higher resolution it will take lots of time, and even HOURS to render the result. "GMM wrote: I'm not an expert in filter construction so I may be totally incorrect here. But in my amateur opinion a high-detail Noise plugged into a Noise Distortion is a poor architecture. ... intentions. I've gotten it to the point where I'm happy with the result and want to just make all the exposed parameters work as intended, but the damn thing has become a real pain and work is just so slow because of render time lol. Surprisingly it's not as slow of a render as some of the editors choices so I'm happy with that. What's taking so long is that I set up a pretty cool "lighting" system so you can set the time of day (1-24) and get the expected lighting conditions, but I only made sunset look ...

  • 9 MONTHS with this bug and still without a fix, solution or news
Author: SpaceRay. "Morgantao wrote: Then it's only a matter of render time, without crapping up in the middle of a 3 hour render. " Yes, this is what I want, as FF is very slow with some filters that are complex (or FF self generated) in high resolutions, at least I could leave to render in 1 or 2 hours and then have the final result, BUT now is not possible because about half an hour later it usually gives this error and ...

  • Rendering size limitation ?
Author: rilos. Hi everybody, I just installed and tried FF, quite impressive but rather slow. I wonder if there is any restriction in der rendering size (image output) because I cant choose bigger than 600x600 pixels ? Is this a limitation to the beta ? I read something about very big renders (30000 x 30000 or more) ? Is there any tutorial yet ? I only found empty space in the tuts ...

  • Supersampling
... my AO is set to draft. But with the draft setting still on, I tried the supersampling idea and got better looking results at less than half the render time. So I'm curious why this isn't an option along with regular AA. AO on high is ridiculously slow and I feel like maybe I could get similar quality at a greatly (far more than 50%) render time.

  • Filter Forge 4.0.7 Final Version Key FAQ (questions about Licence Key)
Author: SpaceRay. NOTE: I have made a mistake with the FF version, is not 4.0.7 , the right one is 4.0.6, sorry that I have put it wrong I have the trial version and there is no problem using the render maps, maybe because on some filters that is slow it will take some time to show the options of the render maps, but they are not disabled in the trial version

  • Scale Material Larger
Author: chrisd. Stage 5, did you get any further with this? I was curious and I set it up to render on my PC. I could only get it up to 30,000 x 30,000 (I only have 17Gb ram) and it went into virtual memory so that slowed the rendering down quite a bit and I stopped it after 30 minutes. Based on the progress bar it appears it would have needed about 2 hours to finish. If I had matched the proportions at 30,000 x 18000 I may have been able to render it without vm. It ...

  • Motion Trail/Unidirectional Blur
Author: jitspoe. I've been thinking of ways to implement this in LUA, but as Mike suggested, it would probably too slow, as it would mean sampling every pixel along the blur for every pixel you render.

  • Paisley by ChrisP
Author: ChrisP. Thanks Tsu...but I'm not really happy with it, so I'm going to improve it soon. It's too slow to render and the paisley design could be much better. So watch this space for an update or version 2 :-)

  • FF3: Slow
Author: Crapadilla. For the record: Coming fr om a VFX background in commercials/feature film (I'm working as a Shading|Lighting|Rendering Lead Artist for a large germany-based VFX company), I do not find rendering in FF to be excessively slow. The way I see it, this whole discussion appears to be a battle between two differently tuned "frames of reference": One is tuned to the reality of rendering in the VFX world (where rendering a 4K frame can literally take days in worst ...

No, I'm sorry that is not possible. I've tried it and it slows down the render process. The way to do that is to copy the complete text that appears after the "Create and execute batch" button and to paste (Ctrl v) that directly in a "command promt window". Don't use the bat file. If run it directly this ...

  • Citrus by Moss
Author: Sign Guy. Has anyone actually used this one yet? I ran a 3600 x 3600 render that took over 1.5 hours. Figured I was having a low on resources problem and rebooted my quad core. Now the second rendering is more than 2 hours into it and only half done. Is this an incredibly slow filter or is something wrong with my system?

  • Glow Wires by Skybase
Author: Skybase. Tips: 1. If you go "full quality" due to a couple bitmap components it'll run relatively slow. Make sure you preview your stuff before you start rendering! I added a "preview lines" check box to help you design things the way you want before applying the rest of the fancy stuff on top. Alternatively, you can export just the preview lines and apply the glow effects yourself which ...

  • "result" component using scripts
Author: emme. Lets say I'd want to use the ambient occlusion channel to modify the diffuse color. Sure, I could render out the ambient occlusion and load it as an image, but this is super slow and laborious, having to fully re-render and reload every time the occlusion map is changed. It would be much better to have a component that simply renders the ambient occlusion map (and others), which can then be used from inside the filter. Ideally ...

  • Rendering
Author: bobbijake. Got the plug in to work on my CS5.5 and now it's not crashing. Still a bit slow to render, but it works so I don't mind. I also turned off anti aliasing and turned down the ram to 60%. Bobbi

  • Heavy Metal by Aurum
Author: Aurum. Thank you, I was going for an 'old construction vehicle' sort of thing with that one. It's too bad it's so slow. I'm not very proficient at making fast rendering filters; I just don't know what to do.

  • Terrafoaming at the mouth

  • CPU only at 50%
Author: oz42. Having just upgraded to the final release of FF today I thought some of the filters were rendering a bit slow. I ran Activity Monitor and although all cores are running when I render, they're all running at 50%! Any ideas? [Mac Pro (early '08) 2 x 2.8 Quad, 6GB RAM - OSX 10.5.6 - FilterForge 1.017]
