  • Beta 9.003 released
Author: GMM. "Rachel Duim wrote: Is the "MacOS-specific: Rendering is no longer slowed down on Hi-DPI displays" issue going to be fixed in FF8 on the Mac?" Yes, it should be available in the next update to 8.0 (version 8.006).

  • Beta 2 Gallery
Author: Kraellin. thanks, skybase :) the bloody thing is slow though. i think that one took like 7 minutes to render on my quad core. double bombers tend to bog things down a bit :)

  • Beta 2 Gallery
Author: Indigo Ray. Cool stuff guys. :) Gotta love the bomber component. Things still render slow, but making the filter is so fast and easy! How about some grass? (no, not the drug)

  • Nugget Rock by c0c0nUt cAn0e
Author: c0c0nUt cAn0e. Thank you, that's very kind. It's quite slow to render but I'm hoping efficiency will come with experience. Filter Forge is quite a step up for me, but I'm really enjoying it!

  • Inflatable by Carl
Author: onyXMaster. GFX card isn't used in rendering. Unless you have some antique card that makes even blits slow (by "antique" I mean "manufactured in 2001 or earlier") -- it doesn't matter :)

  • Switch option
Author: Vladimir Golovin. Or you can use Blend with a checkbox connected to Opacity. Make sure the checkbox outputs 0 and 100 -- other values will cause blending and thus slow down the rendering.

  • Filter On a Saturday??????
Author: Carl. Being a little slower can't be all bad as quite alot of editors picks are surprisingly slow :D ............ I do agree fast renders are better, that irrating waiting can drive you mad........... Carl :)

  • David Roberson - Previews & Experiments
... quality of the gas giant, making sure to make it work in 1:1 or 2:1 aspect ratios. The first, just so there's some kind of useful result in FF's default frame, and the latter to make equirectangular textures that map well to a sphere. It's still pretty slow to render, but not too slow to work with at preview scale. I'll probably add a couple of layout views that will work for faster setup. I basically need to bypass the actual turbulence generator and display the colors and distribution of the cloud bands and ...

  • Wondering what components get cached.
Author: Crapadilla. "Vladimir Golovin wrote: There's another problem -- the rendering time of one sample depends on the component itself, component inputs and parameters, and sample coordinates. " ... ... so, then the number of samples-taken-per-pixel displayed on a component could be color-coded to show whether the component is slow or fast on average. Alternatively, it could display the ratio of slow to medium to fast samples, so that a user could ...

  • Filter image rendering times
... enough, people will be willing to wait enough anyhow.) It's also important to keep in mind that filterforge is capable of creating enormous images: 65536x65536 (they state worked). No matter what you do in your filter it's going to take hours to render that size, so don't worry if it's a little slow in your smaller preview size since there's no way to tell what res people will ever eventually use.

  • Slow rendering
Author: SpaceRay. "I am running a fast Mac laptop and I have very slow rendering times. I installed FF on my Windows (via parellels) and it too takes forever to render to file. " I wonder why are you using the Windows version having already a fast Mac computer? Why are you not using the Mac version instead?

  • The Pyramids by Ramlyn
Author: Ramlyn. Thanks DJI!! :) Too slow? Humm..... I don't know what to say. In my computer it only takes about 46 seconds to finish to render the main preset, so it looks fast. :|

  • Unjustified loop slowness (bug?)
Author: Sphinx.. Here is a native julia set filter - but the render time is insanely high / freezes, even for a few iterations (3-4 iterations). Me thinks the loop machinery needs oil! :?:

  • Just slow...........
Author: GMM. Aaron, the testers say that thumbnail generation is done in a separate thread and it should never slow down the UI. Please provide links to filters whose thumbnails take longest to render for you.

  • FF Inc. did not know that FF was slow ? Let´s see what others think.
... _____________________________________________________________________ In this Review of Filter Forge 2.0 http://blog.echoenduring.com/2011/01/18/review-the-power-of-filterforge/ " Matt Ward on Jan 18, 2011 Still, even when working on a 500 x 500 pixel image, some filters could take several minutes to render. I can only imagine how long it would take to work on larger, print-ready files. Ultimately, while it can be a bit slow in processing and has a fairly steep learning curve if you want to actually create your own filters, I think that the vast array of possibilities afforded to users through both the available library and the number of options included with so many ...

  • rendering
... be long or short. This is not exactly a problem of the program, but just of some filter. Some suggestions to speed the rendering up : 1. Don't keep any browser open when using FF. Programs like Firefox or Google Chrome steal a lot of memory, slowing the rendering down. 2. If possible, instead to use FF as plugin of Photoshop, use it as stand alone program.

  • Comparison between FF2 and FF3 render speed test
... folder in C: with 56 GB free Anti Alias OFF Not using double precision Gamma correction enabled COMPUTER ACTIVITY WHILE RENDERING I have seen that in both the CPU activity is between 92% and 98% with 4 cores active on the AMD and 8 cores (4 ... ... ? Or is it because is still a beta version ? At first I wanted to make the test with 4000x4000 but it was REALLY VERY SLOW so I decided to make it at 2000x2000.

  • Suds and Bubbles by ronviers
Author: jffe. It seemed a bit slow to render, so I looked inside for a second, and the Cells *Details* are set at 100, but *Roughness* is at 0, so details is doing nothing and can be set to 0 to speed up rendering a bit. Same for the Noise Distortion component. And on one of the Gamma's there's ...

  • New filter - request for feedback
Author: ronviers. "I was using the filter last night, nothing saved yet going to use it some more this weekend" I apologize for the slow rendering times. Most of my filters suffer from this. I justify it on the grounds that to reproduce something like the fold and tatter effect in PS or blinds in AI would take considerably longer even for advanced users. Eventually I want to do a performance ...

  • Slow rendering
Author: PayPaul. There are three filters I have that render at very slow speeds. Cut It Out in 3d and Dragon Dreams are two of the three but are still faster then the next one. The biggest resource hog of all is Spherical Displacement. From this thread I understand it is the number or complexity of nodes that effect the ...
