Hey, I'm originally from Michigan, too! Was just back there a week ago, in fact. Grew up southwest of Ann Arbor, and went to school at UMich.

I lived in Korea for two years and I just thought you might find this piece of trivia humorous, several cities in Korea have the equivalent to state stones, birds, flowers, etc. But they are city stones, birds, flowers, etc.

The most common city bird in Korea is the magnificent pigeon. smile:D
Here is a website of the first city I lived in while in Korea... really corny website, and interesting how there are no Koreans on the website

Would this be the place to request (beg) for a filter?

If so, I would LOVE to have a puff of smoke with varying degrees of puffiness and density.

So far I spent about 8 hours trying to create one. There is one in the Filter section but it lacks asked features. Anyone have any spare time? smile:D

Zoltan made a pretty good one that I use sometimes. It's pretty straightforward, so you could edit it to make it more stretched in various directions. http://www.filterforge.com/filters/593.html Was that the one you tried?

(Zoltan also has a pretty cool blog, btw: http://www.zspline.net/blogs/blog.php)

More like Lenawee county. But I kind of think of A^2 as 'home' now, having spent so much time there, and having family there now. (I live in CA now, along w/ many other fierce Michiganders)

Thanks for the reply. Yes that is the one I was talking about, I'll give it another go and see if I can put together what I'm looking for.

Edit: Cannot believe a little cartoon dust cloud is so hard to do in FF. Anyone able to give it a try? They looks like this:

I think those were just stones and jellybean looking shapes...No petosky textures but those rocks that Uber did were cool..hint.... smile;) smile:)

... how about a Spectrogram generator? As in those things that display frequencies of audio.

Filter Forge image-audio tools? Another weird thought I had.

Meanwhile I'm hitting the FilterForge Block. Can't imagine what kind of image effect to do next.... smile;) Who can suggest a simple one?

Isn't that one of the toughest things we can ever make using filter forge? It's possible though :o Then I just suddenly wish if only FilterForge had some kind of context-free grammar component where users can use a super simple script to generate complex repeating patterns.

The fact is, finger prints are purely just lines + Distortion but in order for us to presume its "a finger print" it takes more than that.

And another one:

This has an adjustable control for light angle. It's simple enought to allow you to go in and tweak it, as required. You might want to blur the final product in pshop, also.

You bet...

Not sure what you're using this for, but you might also put in an offset step on the 'height' channel... that would allow it to seamlessly loop / scroll, if you're using it for, like, a platformer game or something.

Not sure if this has been done already, but...
I would like to see a filter which takes a given normal map, and transforms it into a bump. I sometimes mod games in my spare time, so something like this would make my life easier. I can't imagine it being too difficult, I just can't think of a decent method.

Hmm... that is a good idea. (I really wish FF had a bump <---> normal green nodes... they'd be usefull for all sorts of slop-based filters, such as weathering and such)

In an XYZ normal map, isn't the Z channel the bump? Oh wait, no, it's the normals... you'd have to calc it. somehow. Huh, that is an interesting problem...

Meanwhile, have you seen Crazybump? http://www.crazybump.com/
Works great. It will even reverse - construct a bump map from a shadowed map, (like a photo of a stature) and does a reasonably good job.

Suggestion: a texture that looks like an airmail envelope. Just a paper surface with red-and-blue stripes around the edge. Pretty simple?

gws5597: I submitted a red-and-blue striped airmail envelope today; It's nice, but for some reason, a bit washed out , so if anyone knows how to brighten it..

----It's probably because of the blending mode or amount, but you could always throw in some saturation or maybe even a gamma, to adjust it some. The offset needs a tiny bump too, so it's centered properly. smile:D

I figured out whats wrong without even looking inside. smile8)

You took the Red and white, and did a 50% Normal blend with the Blue and white. So that washed them out. Try having the colors on alpha channels and blending them 100% Normal.

The other thing, the offset is caused by I assume a noise distortion for realism. Just add a slider or checkbox for distortion.

Post-Observation
Well, I was right about the first part, but the second part is not from a noise distortion. He made his stripes by skewing squares made from the tile component, and the tile components he used have a chaos of 15.
