with more folks using more ram these days and therefore requiring a 64 bit o/s, whether xp, vista or the new win7, i'm thinking that FF inc. might want to step up the priority on making FF fully 64 bit compatible. i also say this because i've ordered a new 64 bit machine so, yes, i have a vested interest but, in all seriousness, with folks like sign_guy requiring 3600 x 3600 renders and with faster and faster machine speeds and so on, i'd love to see a 64 bit FF heading our way. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

We'll be adding support for 64-bit (full support for Windows versions and partial support for Mac OS X, as I explained elsewhere), however, I'm not sure that the feature makes it into 2.0 -- there are higher-priority things on our plan.
As for 3600x3600, such sizes -- and much larger ones -- will render perfectly fine on our current 32-bit system, and going 64-bit won't bring any speedup on such small tasks.
Actually, 64-bitness doesn't bring any speedups other than those that might result from being able to address more memory.

yup, it's the added memory access that i'm drooling over and why i put this thread up here. my new 64 bit machine has 6 gigs of ddr3 included with the ability to have up to 12 gigs and with that and the quadcore, i'm hoping to speed things up considerably over my current single core with 2 gigs of ram. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

I really want 64bit support.
Since I built this new system the lack of 64bit software has been dissapointing.
I've got 6GB of RAM too (for now), Kraellin... and an i7 CPU running it all.
My system can run 64bit... my OS is 64bit... I want 64bit software.

Would we rather have 64 bits or bombers, wind blur, better organization of filters, etc. Personally 64 bits would be like the food coloring in the icing of a cake. Yeah it is nice, but white frosting still tastes like pink frosting. (Stay away from yellow frosting though, it definetley doesn't taste like white or pink frosting...)

Why can't we have it all?

Yes, but a 64-bit Photoshop plugin is a necessity, as more and more pros upgrade to CS4 -- which includes a 64-bit version of Photoshop.

I realize that this is an old thread but was the 64bit version ever added? Xara has a wonderful 64 bit version now and there is such a lack of 64 bit plugins that Xara has made both a 64 and 32bit version available so plugins only work in the 32 bit version.
Filter Forge as a 64bit plugin could really fill that gap

We have a 64-bit plugin module that allows you to use FF under a 64-bit host. Though Filter Forge itself is still 32-bit.

What a shame - and I wondered all the time why it's such a pain to get large images to render and about the erratic render speeds...
I personally don't need a single feature added until FF is 64 bit and able to use my 32 GB of RAM instead of swapping like crazy wearing down my SSD and seemingly sitting there sorting through RAM issues using only 20-45% of the CPU instead of rendering full throttle...
Grrrrrrrrr.
Cheers,
Tom
