I noticed when you want to chane the HDRI is only goes from left to right and vice verse, It wold be nice if it could go up and down or in a more circler motion.

You can upload your own HDRIs, so if you want one that is from a different direction then top left or top right you can upload one.

One problem.....outside HDRIs won't submit to the library.....and you will end up with randomly picked lighting from the existing HDRIs. Otherwise, perfectly fine to use if not planniong to submit the filter.... Steve

I thought that was a limitation of FF, I could be wrong though. Or perhaps it's a limitation of the HDRI environs they licensed.

Me too!!! That way you could turn the 'ball' towards the sky and loose alot of the reflection "junk".....like doors, windows, fences, trees, structures, etc. It has been a "huge" problem with alot of 3D glass filters that I've made.....that I can't use or want to submit until there is a remedy for it..... So if we purchase 3rd party HDRI lighting files that are in one of the 2 accepted formats that FF reads, then they will work in the 3rd and 4th (up and down) directions also ? (I am not concerned so much about them working for filter presets in this case.)

i dont think so, jffe. the FF engine is currently only wired to move them laterally. so, extra imported environments wouldnt change that. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

......and FF won't accept any 'foreign' HDRIs.....which would be converted to an existing default HDRI upon submission.....something I'd like to see changed....along with adding an HDRI editor....and customizable HDRI components.....one can only dream Steve

----Oh, so that is just a fact at this point then ? (Sorry, if it's already been said I must've missed it or misynderstood what was said about it.)

----Sure it will, (well, ones that are converted to 1 of the 2 formats FF currently accepts, oddly enough /hdr files not being one of those formats), it just takes forever. I was going to import a 640 X 640 one last night, but 20 minutes in, it looked about 5%-6% done, so I shut it off. Using .jpg files renamed is way faster, but they look like crap.

----That's possible down the road, a few bigger name apps do include that. And there are a few somewhat affordable ones that just do that kind of thing available.

----That I wouldn't hold my breathe for, but I suppose it's possible.
----Friendlier (ie = waayyy faster) importing of lighting files, support for .hdr, and the up/down movable lighting are all must-have features at some point. The rest, well, I don't know enough to comment on other than those 3 things that I feel are sorely lacking in a high level program like this, but again, all 3 of my requests (above) may very well be on their way in an update eh.

It looks like it by the sounds of it
The beauty of "HDRI Components" is that it would allow you to place it anywhere in the tree and combine lighting effects.....like creating backlighting, glows, and things like underwater shimmers, etc. I think you are right.....might be a long time coming.....if ever..... Steve

jffe, just a note re your 640 x 640 import attempt... yes, any dimension over about 400 is going to seriously slow down imports and even 400 is pretty slow. normally, i use 200 x 200 or 200 x 400 or something along those lines.
but, you could always just leave your rig on over night and start the import as the last thing before you go to bed if you wanted larger sizes If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
