Hey there,

Dunno if this has been suggested (searched, went back a few months, couldn't find a mention of it) but it would be really, REALLY nice if we could name a component. Not get rid of it's default name (ie; perlin noise) but to add a unique name (Rust seed, perlin noise). This would help identify what each node does, and could help very much in building and using of snippets as well as easily keeping track of the flow of a filter.

I know people have also suggested grouping of nodes; these two things together would make things much, much easier.

Any thoughts?

in one of the betas the nodes did show a name, or at least a number. i always thought that was a good idea, especially when you wanted help. you could just say, 'take a look at blend 01A' (as opposed to the blend named Blend 01B).

there have been several suggestions for similar things, though. one is the whole memo/rem thing, which, if i remember correctly, includes the whole 'pushpin' idea. and yes, groups would have a name. (actually, now that i think of it, i think pushpins were for moving lines around).

myself, i dont really need the components named, other than having a bit of a small tag on them to distinguish one similar from another. groups and memos, that's another matter. and i also know that some of the larger, more complex filters like 'playing cards' is one mad romp when you try to sort out what's doing what. so, certainly not against naming components either. but, i doubt i would use it much either. i already balk at having to name my controls smile:)
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

This can be solved via notes attached to components, or via the named groups.
