this is a small one, but just noticed it. if you have a preset on a filter that is a surface type filter and you adjust ONLY the surface height on the "lighting" tab and even though it may significantly alter the look of the output, you cannot "upd ate preset" on that preset. you should be able to. I just tried this on 3d Collective Colorful Spiro-Sphere by DJI and when I adjusted just the surface height down to 1 on a preset, I couldn't "update prese t", even though it changed the look of things fairly strongly.

Couldn't you?.. You seem to be doing something wrong. I downloaded this particular filter and was able to change the surface height and update presets accordingly. We're discussing the Windows version, right? Please provide more info.

I assume you are not trying to change the default library presets, since they are not editable at all.

hi GMM,

thanks for looking at this and yes, I'm running windows 7, 64 bit.

i'll check it again. maybe something loaded up wrong. and maybe that was it, the library settings. i'll look again.

ok, I just checked this again, GMM. I think that was it. I think I was trying to alter the preset of a library preset. thanks.

but, while we're on that subject, why do you guys not allow us to alter those? I mean, I know we can make duplicates of them and alter those, but why not the library ones set by the author? seems a bit odd. what are we protecting here?

This was a decision made by Vlad in the early stages of FF development. He should be able to tell you the details, I can only guess he wanted all users of a particular filter to have the same presets.

Why do some filters have a tab that lets you change the lighting and some don't? Is there any way to add the lighting tab to filters?

Flat 2D filters that don't have elevation info can't have lighting. Please check this help page, specifically the section about Simple and surface filters:
