As far as I know there is no possible way to choose what controls will appear in the settings tab, and ALL the controls that are linked to any component of the filter will appear always in the settings tab.
So I am suggesting to have a upd ate the Switch component or have a new component that would let you choose which controls you want to appear on the settings tab, and that you could choose to activate/deactivate them through a checkbox control. For example I have made below an example and tought to use the Switch component to activate either Red or Blue group and will ONLY appear in se ttings tab the controls of that group and NOT the ones also from the other group. As it is now it appears all the components from both groups. I have done it here with groups, but it could be done in any other possible way the FF developers team could think of and what they consider could be better, this is just only an example. ![]() |

5 REASONS TO WHY I REQUEST THIS AND WOULD BE USEFUL AND INTERESTING
1 - MAKE SIMPLE AND EXTENDED VERSIONS IN THE SAME FILTER If you could choose which controls can be showed in the settings tab, you could make filters that could be at the same time simple, extended and advanced versions inside the same filter, I mean that you could have a simple version with few controls, and then you could activate the extended part if you want to have more controls, or a possible advanced version. For example, for making this, you would have 2 (or 3) different versions of the same filter, and then choose with a checkbox with one to use with different controls each one 2 - ADD ADDITIONAL ADJUSTMENTS THAT CAN BE SWITCHED ON/OFF You could add additional adjustment components like Levels, hue, saturation, etc. and you could activate them only when you need them 3 - VERY USEFUL ALSO FOR AVOIDING RANDOMIZATION PROBLEMS As there is still no randomization locks and no news about when they will be available, this would be a good alternative to avoiding the problems with the randomizer (next variant button), as if the settings does not appear in the settings tab, they can´t be randomized 4 - OFFER A FILTER WITH ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO USE IT USING IT´S OWN SPECIFIC SETTINGS ON EACH PART Give the possibility of adding alternative ways to use the filter, I mean for example if a filter is based around a shape, you could offer different alternative shapes to work with the filter, each shape could have specific, separate and own controls that could be only shown when this shape is selected. 5 - ALTERNATIVE COMPONENTS WITH IT´S OWN CONTROL EACH ONE THAT WOULD BE ACTIVATED ONLY WHEN CHOOSING IT You could make a filter that have for example 5 different noise type, and each noise component or group of components could have it´s own specific controls for that part of the filter So you could use for example five noise sources as base for the filter efect to work, and if do it now in this way, ALL the controls of ALL five noise components will be shown in the settings tab and would be confusing to know which one to use, so this way having the ability to show ONLY the active controls from that noise selected would be much better, easier and cleaner. USING ALTERNATIVE WAYS WITH SCRIPTS DOES NOT HIDE CONTROLS Disabling Filter part when parameter is at zero? I have found this thread that uses alternative ways to disable parts of a filter, but although this works, it will not disable any control attached to the disabled part OTHER THREADS EXPLAINING THIS MAYBE BADLY AND CONFUSING Switch on/off or activate/desactivate settings inside Groups in FF 4.0 Some way to hide filters settings panel from excluding components? Please, How to make a switch to enable/disable components results ? |

Maybe this idea would be better and easier to make for FF developers if it is used with the new Groups in FF 4.0, so instead of using a switch component to activate/ deactivate parts of the filter, the group component could have some sort of way to switch it on/off through an added link where you can link a checkbox control.
So the result should be the same, any controls linked to that group that is not active would not appear in the settings tab ![]() |

It's already been suggested (Feature Wishlist), but still...
A very important feature to have! +1 --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

This was in September 2013 and in August 2021 is still not available, and I still think that this would be really helpful and useful to have to be able to test and use things without having the weight and resources of parts of the filter to make it much faster
So you could have OPTIONALLY if wanted a part that can be slower and heavier use that will need much more time to render, but you could disable this and then it would be much faster. Because now ALL the connected parts of a filter are always used for the result EVEN when you only may use just a part of the filter itself, but the time taken to render takes ALL THE WHOLE amount of components connected even when THEY ARE NOT USED, as for example they may be part of one or multiple Switchs |
