I hereby propose a new pattern component, the Radial Tiles! It would look much like the existing Tiles component...

Quote
Radial Tiles: Map Component

-- Tiles: color map
-- Mortar: color map
-- H Range: grayscale map
-- L Range: grayscale map
-- S Range: grayscale map
-- Mortar Width: grayscale map
-- Bevel Width: grayscale map
-- Corners: grayscale map

-- Fill Mode: combobox
-- Repeat: integer input
[This replaces Repeat H and Repeat V and controls the number of concentric rings]
-- Chaos: integer input
-- Variation: random seed

-- Bevel: curve input

... and it would produce an output as shown below. Tiles would be arranged along concentric circles/rings, the number of which the user specifies. Each tile would always maintain its rectangularity. The component would also automatically adjust the number of tiles distributed on each of the concentric rings so that there is no overlap among tiles.

Note that regular pattern components can be spherified via polar coordinate transformation, but they do not retain their rectangularity (as can be observed in the Radial Mosaic Tiles filter). This is why a Radial Tiles component would be an important addition to the toolset.

I agree, we haven't had a new component since... since... since....

We haven't had a new component ever; at least since I have been using FF, always just bug fixes and updates and apple betas. It is almost like the FF team is busy or something smile:)

Seriously though, amongst all the business, I would love to have a small morsel (such as a new component) thrown my direction. smile:)

Hey Dilla, u seen my Circular Tiling filter?
Certainly it would be way better if it was a component so as to be fast.

Well, now I have... smile;)

Nice work. If only we could find a way to have the number of tiles adjust automatically so that the grout area remains at a minimum even with a higher number of rings. smile8)

Indeed, but I can already feel the dreaded 'Aura of Parsimony' creeping towards this one, with some 'v2 Component Grouping Functionality' in its tow. smile;)

Yes, this would be a good new component and useful to have

Although this from you is very good uberzev, is true that would be better if this was made as a component inside FF

This is pretty specific usage.

It'd be better off suggesting a instancer or copy-stamper or duplicator or iterator or something along those lines. Those would be more global and would be applicable to more applications than having it draw only a circle or a couple other shapes.

Ok, this is better and would be very good to have some kind of duplicator or iterator in FF as this is really needed for many things. Agree that would be more global and with more uses.

But will FF include this kind of iterator/duplicator component in FF 4.0?

Well, there are things you have to have before stuff like this works. The idea isn't so much to create a component but to create a environment that can accept feedback or looping capabilities (as far as I imagine.) The idea of feedback means to literally take the post node's results and feed it back into the beginning. So then it cycles through the same operations once again using the previous result. So it's more than just making radial tiles or shapes that stack towards the left or right. It can make fractals and radically complex shapes in a matter of a couple loops.

Am I the only one who noticed uberzev never participated in this debate, yet he was magically quoted? smile:D

Anyway, an itterator would be a very good addition to the toolset, and (among many other things) would let you make your this kind of radial tiling possible. But, as Skybase wrote, it's a bit tricky to add an iterrator component to the current toolbox, as you need to somehow group all the components you want to itterate, and for now at least, there's no grouping in FF (which would be usefull on it's own smile;) ).
