This is a bit more complex: V2 is on a Win2000 machine and V3 is on an XP machine (both virtual machines under VMWare).
I would like to avoid having to download all the filters I had in V2, but what files do I need to copy over from V2 to V3? Is there any way to get a list from V2 of what is installed so I can avoid slogging through the hundreds I don't have a use for? |

Well you do not have to download again all the filters you have because it is possible to copy all the filters from V2 to V3.
Please, see these threads Where are the downloaded Filter Forge filters located physically? Moving Filters From 1 Computer to Another If you find the %APPDATA% intimidating, there is even a much easier way to find the filters of filter forge without doing this The easiest way is to open Filter Forge, go to the fiter menu at the left, and then sel ect a filter in the filter list and press Ctrl+L. After pressing Ctrl + L a new window will open showing you ALL the filters you have, and then you can sel ect all and copy them all fr om the Filter Forge 2\System\Library to the Filter Forge 3\System\Library (both folders are in the same place) This does NOT include the "my filters" folder or any of the "my presets" you may have, and this must be done in the way shown above in the links to make a copy of these to FF 3.0, although it could be also easy if you are already in Filter Forge 2\System\Library because the only step you need is to go back fr om Filter Forge 2\system to the root folder and find Filter Forge\My Filters and My presets |

1 - open Filter Forge,
2 - go to the fiter menu at the left, and then sel ect a filter in the filter list and 3 - press Ctrl+L. 4 - a new window will open showing you ALL the filters you have, and then you can sel ect all and copy them all fr om the Filter Forge 2\System\Library to the Filter Forge 3\System\Library THANK YOU! ![]() For a Virtual Machine ... to prevent them fr om getting into a shootout over resources: 5 - Copy the filters to a folder on the virtual machine's desktop 6 - Drag the folder to the host machine's desktop. 7 - Close the first VM 8 - Open the other VM 9 - drag the folder onto the second VM desktop 10 - copy files into the appropriate folder |

OK ... filters are in, although it crashed several times on "bad" filters. Deleting them from the Library solved that problem.
C:\Documents and Settings\myaccountname\Application Data\Filter Forge 3\System\Library Now - how to get them to show up? I have several hundred filters in the library and only about 10% of them are showing up in the list. I tried downloading a new filter, as recommended to another user, but that didn't work. Is it significant that some have names and some have "Library" and a number? |

YES it is very significant and VERY important. ALL the filters MUST have, as name Library, and a number to be recognized by Filter Forge, if it has a name instead, will be ignored by FF and will not work. From where did you get the filters with names instead of the Library and number ? Did you rename them ? |

Please delete library.xml and librarystructue.xml and then download a new filter from the online library. |

"go to the filter menu at the left, and then select a filter in the filter list and press Ctrl+L." And there they were!
They were in the Library of FF 2.0 on my Win2000 machine. They must have been downloaded by FF during some incarnation. I've been using it for a while. Let me try deleting the library.xml and librarystructure.xml files and see if that fixes things. It's doing a lot of disk access, warns me that categories have changed ... gets the filter I requested, and I have one more filter visible. None of the names of the others changed. ![]() I have no clue why they are there or how they got there. I'll save them in a folder and start over with what I have named Library unless you have an idea on how to convert them to the Library naming convention. |
