It took forever for me to get FF to work...
Now it's not working again but it's a different issue.
I hit the ff.exe and it starts in my processes but it the FF window never shows up.
What do I do now with this exhaustingly troubled program???

Is it your first launch after reinstalling/downloading a large bunch of filters? Generating the thumbnail cache for thousands of filters can be long.

I'm having the exact same problem. FF2 ran perfectly fine for months, and then one day just stopped. I let it run for a while, and nothing. Tried also the other suggestions in the other thread below but also to no avail.
Running win7 x64
I need it running back urgently. Got a project on the go.

Please be more specific: what is 'stopped'? Have you installed something prior to getting the problem? Do you run Filter Forge in the standalone mode?

Double-clicking on FF2 doesn't run it.
The last program installed was the Comodo Internet Security update. I've disabled it, tried re-installing FF2 but still no luck with it. I removed any mention of FF2 from the firewall settings too, just in case.
I'm running it in the standalone mode.

And I think I resolved it.
Culprit was Comodo. I did a system restore prior to the latest update, had to reinstall FF2 and now it works. Comodo's Antivirus though is shot...but that's another issue now.

Solution to problem:
It seems that the latest version of Comodo Internet Security (CIS) was the culprit on this one (V5.x). FF2 worked with the previous versions.
To fix this issue and allow FF2 to load properly, do the following:
1. Go to the Defense+ tab in CIS
2. Select "Execution Control Settings"
3. Click on the "Exclusions" button
4. Navigate to the FF2 folder on the left-hand window and move the "bin" folder to the exclusion panel on the right
5. Apply and voila!
Good luck. I've placed this same workaround in Comodo's forums.

I have the same problem, but only to bin folder exclusions do not work, I have also put the executable files and then run (windows vista). Thank you very much for your help quantumgrey!

Thanks quantumgrey - you saved me from a big headache. I never would have suspected Comodo.
