After and Uneventful installation all goes smoothly. I try to run FF and get nothing happening at all in the stand alone version and in PS Elements 7 I get The error 'Could not complete the filter forge command because of a program error'
Please help I'm really wanting to get it up and running ASAP.

Also my Windows is XP Pro SP3 - Wiith ZoneAlarm Security Suite and SpyBot + usual array of proggies.

Thank you

Hi picleo smile:)

I would suggest uninstalling FF.....then re-installing with all your security and anti-virus programs disabled.....sometimes these programs block, quarrantine, or delete the x86 files during installation.....

Hope this helps get you up and going with FF..... smile:)

Hi StevieJ,

Thank you for your suggestion it put me on the right path to get ensure it was installed properly. It would not run with the virus, firewall (disconnected from net of course), and 2 lots of anti spyware disabled.

I installed it under 'Safe Mode' and it worked beautifully.

I think that something is running in Windows that's not showing up readily. I ran a 'rootkit finder', still nothing found.

So I find myself stuck without being able to run FF at all and even in PSE 7 I am still getting the error 'Could not complete the filter forge command because of a program error'.

I've written to the programmers asking for their help. The next thing would be to re-install Windows. I do hope there is a shorter, swifter route.

Thank you StevieJ for all your help it got me a lot futher than I would've done on my own.

Cheers

Hey picleo, I don't think you need to re-install Windows.....just disable all those programs without disconnecting from the net (firewall can be left up).....sounds to me like one of your security/AV/malware programs is preventing it from running in normal mode.....because FF runs fine in Safe Mode with all those programs disabled, right???

Also, you might have to go through those programs to see which one(s) are having a problem with FF.....and allow/give permission to the component(s) that are causing the problem.....

Hi picleo,

Did you ever get a resolution for this problem?

I am having the same difficulty: won't start in normal mode, but will start in SAFE mode.

I am running Vista 64bit Ultimate.

kieron, do you use ZoneAlarm as well?.. Unfortunately ZoneAlarm can't stand Filter Forge and prevents it from launching. Uninstalling ZA should help.

(The issue was reported to ZA support back in 2007, but nothing seems to have been done about it.)

Thanks for the suggestion. But no I don't have ZoneAlarm on this machine.

In my case it is going to be either PCTools Spyware Doctor or one of the Vista initial startup functions. Most likely one of the latter, I think.

i have zone alarm on both my 32 bit xp machine and my 64 bit vista and FF works fine on both. so, dont know why ZA would interfere with FF. seems odd and isnt happening in my case at all. but, i'm just using the free, basic firewall, not the whole security suite. so, could be something else in the suite, i suppose.

Spyware Doctor is blocking it for me. When I shut it down, FF works just fine!

Sisquoc,

I do have PCTools Spyware Doctor. Do you shut it down, any other way than doing the right click and click "Disable Intelligard"? I have tried that and it still won't open. Do I need to stop the processes in Task Manager or what?

Thanks,
kieron
