It's true. At least for me. When I click on a filter to download, I get an error.
On Firefox:
Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (filterforge) isn't associated with any program.
On Explorer:
The webpage cannot be displayed
Most likely cause:
Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed.
And I certainly have FF installed on my computer. This never happened in the past, and the only relevant change I can think of is receiving a permanent copy of FF Pro instead of the demo I had previously. So what's the problem there?

Please click the 'Download more filters' link in Filter Forge main window. This should fix the problem, and then you will be able to open filters as ususal.
And please make sure you've got the latest version 1.015.

Aha! I didn't have the latest version installed. It usually tells me automatically, so I must've missed it when it did. Thank you!

Carl, is IE your default browser? On clicking the 'Download more filters' link Filter Forge opens your default browser.

Carl: when you see the 'Web page cannot be displayed' error, does the IE address bar show something like filterforge://open-4573/ ?
If yes, please reinstall the version 1.015.

Same thing with me today. Just purchased the program and everything working fine yesterday and today. Tried to download another filter, various filters just recently and got the "no association" message. What's the file called Filter Forge uses to associate with the browser? I'll just enter it manually and see if that fixes the problem.

got it....in firefox go to Tools, Options, Applications. Then find the Filter Forge under the 'content type' and for the 'action', browse for C:\program files\filter forge\bin\filter forge
that fixed my problem....dunno why it got unassociated though in the first place...

GMM I run latest version IE 7 with all updates, all so checked my Firefox [ updated latest version ] and the same thing.
Vista Home Premium service pack 1 fully updated on a Dell 720 xps pc.
I can't see anyway to add file types to IE manually.

Carl, please open Firefox > Tools > Options > Applications.
Is 'filterforge' listed there as a registered type?
Also, on January 29th you reinstalled Filter Forge and it solved the problem temporarily. At that time we didn't change anything. Is it possible that an antivirus or a backup software reverted the state of your system?

GMM I reinstalled FF again, it then works in downloading and showing up as a file type in IE but not in Firefox - but once I shutdown pc and rebooted, it goes back to the same problem Interestingly when FF is working correctly all the files are FF icons in my filters /library but when it's not working correctly they look like blank white paper with top corner folded over ......... and the file type disappears from IE options.
I use McAfee and Superant neither have shown up any viruses ect and they are run frequently .............. and I have made no restore operations ............ Quote |
