Greetings,

Note that this question is coming from a mac user who never used windoz (and now is assured that never will) trying to run FF through Virtual PC

would someone be kind to tell me in which folder the actual app is to be found (I can't believe I need to ask this)

I had 3 files named, FF, FF x86, FF x86-SSE2 but nothing happens with those. all others seems to be documents.

Usualy an app is in plain sight of the main folder; here the only one is the un-install.

ty

:edit:

It really seems to be one of the FF file but not working.
If someone would tell me what they usualy get when they turn on the app, it would help

When I installed FF it showed up in my *programs* list, and I made a shortcut to it for my desktop, now I just doubleclick on that and FF opens. For the plug-in, you have to cut & paste the .8bf file that is in the FF folder (after you install it, in C:\Program Files\Filter Forge\Plugin on my computer), into the Photoshop (PSP/etc.) plug-ins folder, then it should show up the next time you open that app.

Thank you jffe, this helped a little to find myself into this pc complicated mess smile:)

Unfortunatly, FF doesn't open.

I re-downloaded it many times, un-installed and re-installed many times, installed it in different places.. it's just not opening.

I am trying the 3 FF files that are in the bin folder (FF, FF x86, FF x86-SSE2). None opens.

I tryed through task (new task).. doesn't open.

few times when clicking it, it said it couldn't open for it already was (though definatly not showing), but when I went in the task window, it didn't even show there.

The shortcut (on my desktop that I use to open FF) links to "C:\Program Files\Filter Forge\Bin\Filter Forge.exe", and that opens the stand-alone (as opposed to the plug-in). If you cannot doubleclick on that file and get FF to open, then you might try contacting the FF support team FF support

Ambrosia what version of Windoze are you using with Vpc?
It could be possible that it takes a little longer for FF to open under VirtualPC..I noticed a couple of apps that take a little while to open sometimes....

When it says that it is running already when you click the icon..That means that Filter Forge is opening..So under VirtualPC you would have to wait longer between clicking the icon and when the actual window of FF opens...Its an emulation thing with speed of opening apps...

yes I know; believe me I was waiting a long time..

I actually ended up deciding to reinstall vpc, I think the bug 'might' come from there..
it's all I can see for I tried everything and it just doesn't make any sense.
(not that windoz itself makes sense in the first place, but you know.. lol)
after so many trials, I thought I'd try something else.

I'll keep you up to date when I'm done

ok, i'm confused. ambrosia, i think you said in another thread that you were running virtual pc on a mac. ummm, if you're using microsoft's virtual pc, it shldnt even work on a mac. see this page for system requirements: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/de...laylang=en .

now, if you mean you're running 'Parallels' which is a virtual pc, then ok. but MS virtual pc will not work on a mac... or shldnt.

and, if you're running MS virtual pc under parallels, then you've got too many programs going there, at least from my understanding of what parallels is.

Well of course my mac doesn't fit the requirements for vpc windowz lol
If you try vpc for mac, the requirements should seems more appropriate smile;)

I am only new to the windoz platform and it's unnecessary complicated ways.
Seing how this thing works, I cant believe people put up with it..
even less how the microsoft guy can live with his own mind lol ..

anyway.. I installed vpc, then installed windoz xp, then from there used the windoz's explorer and downloaded the FF set-up on the windoz's desktop, installed, then when to it and spent hours trying to find what and where was the app. there was 3 files that seemed like it in the bin folder which names I wrote above, I tryed all 3 by clicking, and through task, nothing. try many other things too, to the point that I just couldn't see what more to do and decided to reinstall vpc.

MS Actually stopped updating VPC for the mac....This was originally by a company called Connecix..Which was sued by Sony for their Playstation emulator..The original version1 of VirtualPC and beyond was created specifically for the mac back in the day...Then MS bought the product and I think only updated once or twice for the Mac version..But now MS gives away free ONLY the X86 version of VirtualPC..But not the Mac version that I have found..

Indeed I'm on a 30 days trial which has begun few days ago while FF has not. it's a bit why I try what I can for if I manage to open FF only in 3 weeks, no matter how much times it gives me, I'll only have a week left..

I would have liked to try and make you a filter, leave you a little something until the mac version finally shows it's little nose on the download page

----That's usually a folder option, to show filename extensions.

----Also, assuming you can get FF working, an email to FF support will usually get you an extension or two on the demo, so you will still have some time left if you can get it sorted out. Best of luck. smile:)

ok, so there's a mac version of vpc. cool. i think i'd still run Parallels; that seems to be the defacto from what i've seen and heard.

at any rate, the file you want is 'filter forge.exe . just double click on it and it shld run. it does take a while to load, as much as a minute in some cases. and on an emulated pc, it might well take quite a bit longer.

if it's not running or wont run, then you might well have a corrupt download and would need to download again. i forget the file size of the whole but 25 megs or so sticks in my mind. if your file(s) is considerably smaller, you might try a new, clean download.

if that doesnt work, toss vpc out the window and go with something else, or, just go buy a pc. they're cheap these days smile:)

and i think someone else mentioned getting service pack 1. i dont recall if that was vpc's service pack or xp's service pack, but if it was xp's, then get service pack 2 and install it. it removes a LOT of bugs from windows.

and, since it's windows xp you're installing, you might as well spend some time removing all the garbage from xp. for that, i recommend http://www.blackviper.com . great site for trimming the fat out of xp smile:)

Kraellin,

Virtual PC was designed to run on the "older", PowerPC-based Macs, in order to emulate an Intel-based processor through software. Before Apple switched to using Intel processors in Macs in Jan. 2006, that was the only way you could run Windows on a Mac. From what I've heard, the reason Microsoft bought it from Connectix is that they were going to use it (or parts of it) in the Xbox 360 (which is PowerPC-based) to allow backwards-compatibility with the original Xbox games (the original Xbox was Intel-based).

With the advent of Apple's switch to Intel processors, several companies have created software like Parallels, which allows Intel-based Macs to run Windows. This type of software will only run on Intel-based Macs, not PowerPC Macs, so it isn't an option for the OP.
