I've just finished updating FF to v1.011 on my home machine (didn't use that version for a while). Upon checking for filter updates I am alerted to 'Grin Inc.' and 'Cut it out' being available for updating. So I select 'Grin Inc.' and hit download. All seems to work fine. Out of habit, I immediately navigate to the category 'My Favorites' (which is displayed in bold now, and - as I notice milliseconds later - is also the ONLY category displayed that way) to check the filter. Crash!!! Bug report sent.

I restart FF and proceed to updating 'Cut It Out'. The download appears to work fine and I get the usual pop-up that a filter has been updated. Then I realize that none of the categories is displayed in bold, as if the filter just hadn't updated. Also, the filter thumbnails display right next to the categories is completely empty. So I select the category where 'Cut It Out' would be located and the thumbnails start loading. I check 'Filter Updates' again - and behold! - 'Cut It Out' is still available for updating. Repeating the update process about ten times without success, I decide to close FF and restart it. As it turns out, 'Cut It Out' had indeed been updated, and the 'Creative' category is now displayed in bold with a (1) appended. Checking 'Filter Updates' also reveals no more available updates. Phew! The Update 'oddyssey' is over! smile;) smile:D

Thanks for such a detailed account. The developers will certainly find it helpful.

I'm no stranger to getting this type of behavior.....which seems to be part of the ongoing resource leak problem..... smile:|

StevieJ, when did it start? With version 1.011 or earlier?

No, I don't think it's related to the resource leak. Most likely it's another thing, though it's for the developers to judge.

I've never experienced this error before, so I'd wager it has got something to do with v1.011.

Way before V1.011.....since I first got the program.....including the same problem that Dilla just experienced.....

I've always considered it to be part of the resource leak because the timing is always the same with the program starting to seize up.....which forces me to shut down, clean my computer, and restart in order to get the program back to working without any problems.....and occurs on a regular basis from 30 minuites to two hours into using the program.....

I encounter the following problems.....in order of frequency.....

1) Cursor seizes up, becomes very sticky, and won't grab controls....
2) Rendering becomes very slow.....
3) Program commands become unresponsive.....
4) Program will not allow me to save and gives me a message telling me that I have the "basic" version that will not allow saves.... smile:|
5) Program decides not to register changes and filter updates (like what Dilla just experienced).....usually accompanied by different "strange" behaviors in the program.....
6) Program crashes upon saves.....but I've learned to detect the "tell-tale" signs of it coming (see above) and now do frequent shut-downs and restarts to avoid it.....

i was running 1.010 on a win xp machine and had no problems updating to 1.011. i updated by going to 'download more filters' and it prompted me that i needed to upgrade before i could download. i let it go ahead and all went smoothly. i say this just to let the coders know that some of us did upgrade without any problems.

but, i did encounter one, very small change in operation of FF that i dont like. i want really call it a bug, just a small change. i used to be to, on any slider, hit the slider somewhere other than where the pointer was currently pointed and hold down the mouse while i did this and i could 'grab' the pointer and continue to move it further than the point at which i grabbed it. now i cant. the pointer will now only move to where i had my mouse cursor pointed and stays right there even while still holding down the mouse button. i have to now click on it again to drag it where i want. so, a small change, indeed, but one i miss. i liked it the old way.

I thought it was just me (or my old home rig), but now that you mention it, I too do have the feeling that the slider manipulation 'feel' has changed somehow with the new release. I don't like this one bit as it somewhat feels more difficult to manipulate control sliders now.

Since it seems that we are not all experiencing the same problems, I was wondering if there are "optimal" advanced OS settings (buffers, memory, etc.) that should be used for best performance of FF???

Yeah.....but I thought it was part of the resource leak problem because I've been getting it all along.....and I think the "stickiness" is definitely a bug because it should work and act exactly the same as it does in all other programs..... smile:|

Yup, the same here. After updating filters, the FF 1.011 needs to be closed to clean up the update list. I didn't notice that before in the previous version.

It just happened again, this time on my studio machine. I downloaded the 'Pixel Scape ™' update. FF showed the usual pop-up the the filter had downloaded successfully, but only the Favorites category was displayed in bold and followed by a '(1)'. Upon selecting it and dragging the scroll-bar, FF crashed to desktop, with no bug report generated. Upon restarting FF all displays as it should.

Thanks everyone.

I'll forward this thread to the developer in charge of the Filter Library (updates and favorites are within his realm) as soon as he is back to work. We are having a kind of intra-office epidemic -- three of the developers are out of office with flu smile:|

Same thing again on my home machine, only now FF crashed to desktop when I selected the bold 'My Favorites' category (where I keep 'Pixel Scape ™').

A similar crash happens to me when I attempt to download filters via the webpage. Anyone else getting those crashes?

I've got a *bug* that's really minor, but it's bugging the piss out of me. Whenever I change screens (ie = leave the FF window and go to a folder or an internet page etc.), when I come back to FF, the My Filters list is at the top in alphabetical order, and I have lost where I was in my list. Why is this bothering me ? Mostly because I like to see other similar filters as I do multiple versions, and losing my place is never something I enjoy regardless of the activity ha-ha.

Twice I've tried to leave a message through FF in Parallels on my Intel Mac with no success, trying on the pure Mac side. I am getting this error when I try to download filters: "Initial data download failed. Reason: 'get_filters_short_info() failed.'." On my PC, I am able to download and save the filters rather than open directly in FF. I cannot seem to do that on my Mac Intel. I haven't gotten down to the PC as I have projects that necessitate me to work in PS and this computer is in another part of the house, so I don't know if downloading the filter will circumvent the error or not. Anyone know, anyone try this, anyone know how to get "download as" as an option?

Thank you,
Cris

Has any solution been found to this? I still get"Initial data download failed. Reason: 'get_filters_short_info() failed.'."

I have been unble to use my FF since I posted and it's been rather distressing. I've emialed FF hoping for a repsonse.

Thank you,
Cris

Unfortunately, no solution has yet been found to this. We cannot catch this error -- on our machines Filter Forge works correctly under Parallels.
