I right-clicked a Perlin noise component I had on my stage and selected copy from the menu.
Then right-clicked the stage and selected paste from the menu.
And from that moment on Filter Forge is stuck in hand mode. The top buttons won't do any good, their selection status shows but I'm still stuck in hand mode. Keyboard shortcuts h, s and z don't help (although it does show feedback in the top buttons). When I close Filter Forge entirely and start up again the hand is still there!

And while I'm typing this post and ALT-TAB back to FF for description of the problem the arrow magically returned! smile:D

I'd almost given up all hope.

I'm trying to reproduce this but I can't. I'm almost thinking this is something caused outside FF since closing FF and opening had no effect while ALT-TAB had.

This has happened to me at least twice. I can't reproduce it either. However, at least once, I think I remember closing FF then going back to it and things were back to normal.

offhand, not that i totally understand everything you've mentioned, but when FF starts to act weird, it's usually the memory leak bug. your resources get eaten away and there's not enough left for Ff to operate normally...so, it starts to do screwy things.

by killing Ff and starting it again, you free up resources again and FF runs normally again... for a while.

that's my best guess, anyways.

I don't think it has got to do with memory. I had just started up FF when it happened. When I killed it and started it again it was still there.

This bug has been there since the beta days, and, to the best of my knowledge, is still at large. We tried to reproduce it but we couldn't. It would be great if someone found a reliable way to reproduce it.

Ahw no... it's at it again...

-edit-

I still don't get this one. I close and open FF two times and the bug is still there. Then I get a browser, type this post, alt-TAB back and it's fixed. smile:?:

I've had this happen to me also (very very infrequently and seemingly at random). Since the ALT key changes cursor states inside FF, this bug might indeed be somehow related to ALT-tabbing out of FF or back into it.

Possibly it's just that the Alt or Ctrl key sticks on your keyboard.

Hey, it not only occurs in the editor, also in the normal filter renderer.
It's definitely something with ALT-TAB... but what?

Twice... but it's really hard to get rid of.

Curious thing though:
When this happens (and you're in the editor) if you select the hand-tool button it will work as expected. But when you select the pointer and the cursor stays a hand, it does not work exactly as a hand-tool: suddenly you can select components by double clicking. The single click works as a hand tool though.
