Hi everybody,
until yesterday I used ff Vers. 1.008 and had downloaded a lot of filters (from 2006). Yesterday I looked for new filters and the first thing was, that I was told to update to the newest Version 1.01 what I did and Installation was fine.
But when I downloaded new filters, the complete library structure was reorganized and lots of filters were moved to the myFilter-Section.
I really didnt like that, because my own spec. filters are now mixed up with a crowd of different filters and I do not know where to look for my known filters.
Why cant I decide on my own, where to put new filters and build up my own library structure?
I would appreciate it very much, if it would be possible to download new filters without the "open in FF option" just to a destination I like. And I would like to create my own subdirectories in the filter library!
This cant be too hard to achieve, can it?
Thanks very much!
rilos regards, rilos

is anyone working on that item or what is going to happen here?
I think this is one of the worst points - when you dont find your
filters any more in the crowd and cant organize them as you need them
we better stop posting filters regards, rilos

The reason many filters got moved to your 'my filters' folder is that the author removed them from the library (as I understand it). It's not that the FF authors want them to be mixed in, it's that they are not 'categorized' in the library anymore (because they've been deleted.)
Something that would be nice is a 'removed from library' folder for these orphaned filters.
Having the ability to have your own category system would be nice in FF, and has been mentioned to the engineers before. I don't think we'll see anything for THIS version, though.

Yes!!! That would be much better than just dumping all of them in 'My filters'....and having users dig through it to try and figure out what had happened...... Steve

----It's surely not that big of a deal. When that happens, and it happens every month or so, just go in, copy or delete the filters out of "my filters", and move them or just erase them, and don't worry about it for now. There isn't gonna be any Pc updates til the Mac version is out, we're all just sitting on our thumbs for one feature or another, yer not alone ha-ha.

Hmmm - I think this point should really be easy to change
Its really annoying if you collect filters in greater amounts and
have to reorganize and search for them every now and again.
Why dont they make the library-structure user-definable?
That would be the best.
Can anyone please explain how to handle the library structure on the
computer, i.e. where to put which files when you copy filters or structures
from one PC to another? Or if you want to move structures to another directory?
As far as I understand, the library-structure is built in html-version too-
so you cant just copy them like normal files? regards, rilos

----I've only moved the *My Filters* folder, and yes, you can move it anywhere and then move it back later, and/or delete/copy/paste filters into and out of it at any time without any problems. As for the FF library folders, no idea.

dont know, but i keep asking for it. actually, the formal library structure shld not be changed. it needs to be standard, pc to pc and pc to library. it's the 'my filters' that could be allowed to be user-defineable with more folders made by the user. in that way, the library would be standard but you could take filters from your formal library and place them wherever you like in whatever folder you like. and no, it shldnt be hard to do. the one drawback i do see with this would be that usage of filters for filter ranking might then be very hard to do. folks might take ALL the filters from the library and place them in various folders in 'my filters' and then how would you track usage stats for ranking filters and rewarding bonuses? not sure of that part.

your 'my filters' is located in c:\your user account\documents and settings\application data\filter forge. but, i think the library stuff is in c:\program files\filter forge. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Easiest way to find where your filter files are located is right-mouse clicking on them in ff and then selecting the "locate file" option. It will take you straight to where they are in Explorer. rikard

Library stuff is stored in the per-user application data also, check System\Library folder. I wouldn't recommend messing with it though
