I noticed one of my HU filters, now has a Low Usage rating, and I do not understand how that is possible exactly. I still have all my HU credits, but I thought once a filter was HU, that it was alays rated as HU, even if it fell in popularity over time. It's no big deal really, it just struck me as quite odd, so i thought I'd ask about it is all.

If I remember from the real early posts..I can't find it at the moment but, I thought that the HU filters can go back to LU or even average but as long as it did reach a HU
you will still keep that credit no matter where the filter goes from there... It was a post in the first couple of months I think..  Stupid things happen to computers for stupid reasons at stupid times! |

and i asked bella about this not too long ago, as well. i had the same thing happen. you earned the HU. that doesnt go away, but usage is usage and that can change.
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Well, I looked again and it still says, "Rewards - This filter has earned its author one of our rewards. They are given to the authors of popular filters and include a free copy of Filter Forge.", so I guess you guys are right, and it's a non-issue really. Thanks.

Kraellin is right. Usage Rank and Reward Points are different things. This filter has earned you a Reward Point -- this will not be taken from you. But Usage Rank can change because it reflects actual usage or popularity of the filter and is, therefore, updated from time to time. To drop from High Usage to Low Usage, a filter must stay continuously unpopular for a reeeaaaal long time. An unlikely scenario, but possible. This is what happened with your filter.

Am I correct assuming that - once a filter reaches low usage - it would also take a 'reeeaaaal' long time for it to rise up to average usage again?

No, the probation period for a filter to pass in order to jump up from LU to HU is 6 times shorter
And by the way, the filter will not have to pass the Average stage. It will jump to High straight away, if able to stay popular through the probation period. The Average rank is for new filters only. |
