Hate to say this, but - for me - the last week or two the website has become rather sluggish and even unreachable at times, and I have the feeling it is getting worse. Anyone else experience this?

That's because we've got hit by warez traffic. We're working on it. Looks like we'll need to upgrade the servers to handle peak loads better.

You mean traffic from cracked versions of FF? ![]() Or did the servers get hacked? ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

A lot of warez sites posted write-ups about FF with direct links to the site and the download.

Do site problems occur in a specific time (like early morning or late evening in CDT) or do they occur everytime you visit the site no matter what time is it now?
Space... it seems to go on and on forever. But then you get to the end and a gorilla starts throwing barrels at you. |

Usually I would experience some site hiccups around 12.00 and 0.00 CET (due to backups/filter library updates I presume), but recently the site has become sluggish at other times as well...

If I'm not mistaken, many of the most popular filters (including some of mine) have gained at least 30-50 downloads in comparison to yesterday. That's pretty high for a day from my experience, so I was kind of wondering what was going on...

yup, this is now occurring with me as well. i normally dont have any troubles with speed on the FF site, except at midnight eastern standard time, but this is now noticable in the day as well. i came on here about 11 a.m today and at one point the lag was about 20 minutes long with other shorter lags here and there. quite annoying.

and i'm no web master, but i do believe there's a way to block direct linking. i'm pretty sure vbulletin forums can do it.

Hm... Sounds strange. Our CPU and DB monitors say that it's OK. And this page was loaded rather fast... for me at least.

warez is pirated software/music/videos etc. google the name and you'll get tons of hits. just beware that this is virus country and is blatant copyright infringement.

I want my filters to be used, but not like that.....sounds like FF needs to think about putting some "serious" protection on the program and all the filters.....

wouldnt really matter much. it's the old story of 'locks only keep out the honest'. that sounds a bit apathetic or cynical, i know, but the simple fact is, i've yet to see ANY software that cant be cracked. so, anti-crack software mostly just hurts the honest, especially when it gets really 'strong'. the best case i know of of this is in game software where the copy protection got so 'robust' that you couldnt even install a legitimate copy.

True, but I've heard that there are some new unbreakable methods that aren't supposed to do that.....wish I could remember where I saw it.....

Ultimately, one single legit user, could easily download all the filters, and new ones as they got posted, and re-post them around online in various ways, especially since each filter file is so tiny in size. I haven't looked lately, but FF was on emule as of a month or so ago, I didn't grab it to check and see if they had packed the library with it, but it didn't look quite big enough (filesize) for that. Sucks that they can crash the site and/or tie up legit traffic and steal directly, but maybe that can be stopped somehow

Yep even the best software deterants can eventually be cracked or not long after it comes out. Sometimes it only makes it a hassle for the honest people who are using the software.
Not to sound to on the other side but this will never happen..There will always be someone cracking the software protection. At best these new methods will only slow down the process but never fully stop it... ![]() Unfortunatly.. ![]() Stupid things happen to computers for stupid reasons at stupid times! |

Argh, I'm legit (I won't quit, hehe) and I'm running into errors today:
Service Temporarily Unavailable You have made too many requests per second. All I was doing was browsing recent filters in my tabbed web browser and opened a dozen up in quick succession in new tabs, then I saw that message. I presume it's intentional, but the limit seems kinda low. I'm enjoying using Filter Forge to create http://torley.com/textures |
