using 8.4 and am getting A LOT of crashing when I try and download consecutive filters. The fist just fine. The second crashes, and when I try and restart the program, it says its already running, so I check my task manager and nothing is there. Then I restart my comp, and the same series of events happens several times tell I restart and try to open FF and it just crashes without even opening. So then I restart AGAIN... lol... and uninstall (can't uninstall tell I restart cuz again it says its still running). Try to download 2 back to back filters and it crashes again. HELP!!! I don't know what to do anymore. Iv also tried downloading one filter, then closing the program, then downloading the second, and BAM still crashes smile:( Anyone know what to do?

Sasserine, we received a few reports similar to yours but we've never been able to reproduce that. If you notice a pattern that leads to crashes every time and can be reproduced, please let us know.

I think that to be able to identify and reproduce the error by the FF team, I think there should be more information on how the filters are downloaded

So please make a detailed step by step description telling how do you do it exaactly so the FF the FF team can do it in the same way as you do it

for example

1 - Open Filter Forge
2 - Go to FF website and select a filter
3 - click on the download filter
4 -
5 -

And also put what errors happens after doing one the steps and where does it happen exactly

and also tell what browser are you using and what computer

I am using Firefox browser, and here are my comp specs...

Processor: Intel® Core™i7-5820K CPU @ 3.30GHz

Installed memory (RAM): 16.0 GB (15.9 GB usable)

System Type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor

Windows 10

GeForce GTX 980

So after a fresh restart I got this error and the application wouldn't even open so I had to uninstall/reinstall it...

<class XFW::Kernel::SystemException> Access violation at address 00000001405A5D2D (read at address 00000000000001E0).

When I tried to uninstall I got an error that said:

Uninstall has detected that Filter Forge 8 is currently running.

Please close all instances of it now, then click OK to continue or Cancel to exit.

Opened Task Manager and there was nothing there to close so I restated again.

Download FF with FireFox.

OK Steps:

1. Opened Filter Forge standalone software.

2. Found a filter to download from filterforge.com.

3. Clicked open this filter in filter forge.

4. Got this error: <class XFW::Kernel::SystemException> Access violation at address 00000001405A5D2D (read at address 0000000000000000).

5. Closed error report and the program closes and got this error:

<class XFW::TypeCastError> Cannot cast from <class XFW::Mixins::TypeNameIdentifiable*>@000000000F875B38 to <class FFXLib::FilterCategory>.

6. Restarted Computer.

7. Opened again. Got this error: <class XFW::Kernel::SystemException> Access violation at address 00000001405A5D2D (read at address 0000000000000000).

8. Restarted Computer.

9. Uninstalled.

10. Downloaded.

11. I think it might be my license key? Going to put in my newest license key info again.

12. Downloaded a filter form the website. Success.

13. Downloaded second filter from the website. Success.

14. Closed program and opened in Photoshop CC.

15. Downloaded filter from the website got this error:
<class XFW::Kernel::SystemException> Access violation at address 00000001405A5D2D (read at address 00000000000001B0).

16. Opened Task Manager to shutdown non responsive Photoshop.

17. Tried to open standalone software and got this Error:

<class XFW::Kernel::SystemException> Access violation at address 00000001405A5D2D (read at address 0000000000000040).

18. Restarted computer.

19. Opened Filter Forge in Photoshop CC.

20. Entered newest license key into Photoshop CC plugin.

21. Downloaded filter form website. Success.

22. Downloaded second filter from website. Success.

23. Closed Photoshop CC.

24. Opened standalone software.

25. Downloaded filter from website. Got this Error:

<class XFW::Kernel::SystemException> Access violation at address 00000001405A5D2D (read at address 0000000000000050).

So It looks like maybe its not saving the license key info? Going to restart one more time and see if putting the license key back in works.

26. After restart opened Filter Forge and got this error:
<class XFW::Kernel::SystemException> Access violation at address 00000001405A5D2D (read at address 00000000000001F8).

27. Reinstalling... (restart, uninstall, reinstall)

26. Opened filter Forge standalone software. Entered license key. (I should state that this is what it says when I go to enter the key: Filter Forge is already registered, the license name is Julie Kay Miller. Do you want to change the license information? I click yes, then input my key. This is after downloading from the website.) Registration Successful.

27. Downloaded filter from website got this error:

<class XFW::Kernel::SystemException> Access violation at address 00000001405A5D2D (read at address 0000000000000040).

OK so I was thinking it was the license key, but that last attempted just kinda proved it wasn't. so IDK whats going on, but I use FF all the time and I really need it to work. Can I download 7 again? Or am I stuck with this broken version cuz I do the payment plan.

We strongly recommend to download filters in the standalone mode.
Also, according to your story you were able to download filters successfully. We can't troubleshoot something that is not repeatable.

Well is there somewhere else I can message or someone else I can talk to about getting this issue fixed? Ever since I downloaded FF 8, and lost all my filter btw, it has been doing this. FF is a big part of my workflow and I really need it to work. I don't understand how you can not see the pattern in what I wrote. I can try and do it again. Like yeah it worked once, and then crashed again. So what am I supposed to do just suck it up and restart/redownload/reenter my license every single time I use it? I cant work like that i might as well just get rid of it.

If you don't like the program you can request a refund but "it worked once, and then crashed again" is not a pattern. A pattern is something repeatedly reproducible. How are we supposed to test this if filters download correctly, with or without entering a license key?

So what your saying is that since I can't prove there is a patter to the crashing it can't possibly be fixed? I was trying to troubleshoot as I went along to see if it was something on my end that I could fix. Obviously I can't. Ill go through the steps again and see if I can get it to repeatedly reproduce its errors... lol Although I still don't understand how thats the only way anyone will try and fix this.

Iv been a customer with FF for YEARS! I have bought full licenses, and had the monthly one. Iv recommended this software to EVER SINGLE ARTISTIC FRIEND I HAVE, because I love this software so much. So no, I don't want a refund, I want it to work correctly like it used to. Im pretty disappointed in how this exchange is going. Im having a problem and instead of helping me to fix it Im being told to get a refund?

Ill go through the steps AGAIN when I have time and see if it will repeat or just be all over the pace. Does posting the errors Im getting mean nothing then?

Sometimes its all about the details...Such as what was the filters that you were downloading when the error shown......It may not be the actions that you took but the filter jamming the works.....

It's not completely impossible but very, VERY unlikely. I personally have downloaded about 50 filters in version 8 and none crashed. So what do I do to reproduce your issue?

Looks like something in your working environment triggers these crashes. We can try to download filters using YOUR settings.
If you'd like us to do that, please do the following: locate the "%APPDATA%\Filter Forge 8\" folder, compress it into a single ZIP file, upload it to a web service and post the download link here or send it to the support team.

I'm experiencing similar problems.

Last crash was even worse: FF showed the Filter Category Updates notification and I clicked the update-link. After updating categories FF completely disappeared (no crash dialog or anything - just gone).

As a programmer I understand the need to be able to reproduce issues. The problem here is just that things happen "randomly", so we can't give you any deterministic reproduction guide.

It smells like nasty multithreading issues. Lock lock lock.. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotne...-practices

I have had success downloading alot of filters before it gave the error message

I just didnt log into filterforge website

I managed to get alot of filters downloaded, before when i logged into the website i was unable to download any.

still not a fix but it was better.

it looks to me like a conflict between the software on the pc not communicating with the website properly. Letting the site know that its ok to download this as we have a licence.

Ive paid alot of money for this i need it to work properly
