I'm not sure if this is a bug or if this is suppose to happen. (I'm thinking it's not)
What is happening since I downloaded Beta 5:
When I go into my V 4 and build a new filter, or if I make changes to an existing filter in "my filters", the changes are also made in the beta version. Then when I close my version 4 and then reopen my version 4 again, the program says not all my filters short cut can be found and that I need a newer version of FF. The filters I was working on or changed are now not available in my version 4 program. Example: I built the Christmas tree filter I uploaded right before Christmas in version 4 and now it is one of the filters no longer available in version 4. The filters are in my V4 file but the short cut to them seem to be highjacked by version 5 beta. All my filters are in beta v5 but if I change anything in my version 4 and then close it out, when I come back to it in version 4 it is unavailable.
I tested this today with a filter I had been working on before I installed beta 5. I did a minor change in the setting, saved those setting, and closed out V4. When I reopened V4 sure enough the filter is now unavailable and I then opened the beta 5 version and the filter was there with the new updates I had made. I didn't think Version 5 was suppose to be connected in that way?
Has anyone else had this problem?
I'm using Windows7 home edition OS

To clarify here are some screen shots.
This is my Beta 5. All my filters are in there and work correctly. The three filters I have pointed out I have worked on in version4 since the beta download.
Now this is my Version 4 program. All of these filters are gone in the menu and I get this message when I open version 4.
Every time I work on a filter or build a new one, Beta 5 highjacks the filter shortcut from my version 4 folder.
Any help from the Filter Forge team would be very much appreciated.

It should not happen. Did you try to go on one of these filters and change the default application to open them?

Mardar, do you have custom filter storages added to your FF4/FF5, or do you use only default storage locations?

I only use default storage locations GMM. I have never used the custom feature because I don't have an unmanageable amount of filters. (And old habits die hard)
This is the most bizarre thing I have ever had happen in any of the programs from Filter Forge. I have V3, and V4 installed on my computer and they have ran side by side for years now and I never had bleed over from those two programs. They both still work great as individual programs.
Should I try uninstalling the beta and trying a fresh install? I haven't used the beta program much since I installed it because of the holidays. I mainly just tried out the lock buttons to check out the functions on it. I did no building or filter changes in it because I knew that I couldn't upload or download filters in it.
I hope you folks can find an answer to this. I'm afraid to do much of anything in my program now. I'm afraid I'll lose something important. I have made copy's of my filters and presets just in case.

Okay with the help of CFandM (thank you my good friend) I think I have this figured out. CFandM had me put all of my filters in custom spaces in both versions and the link was finally broken. I also unlinked my two default "my filter" folders.
For the Filter forge team. When I went into Beta 5 (before I made custom folders) and right clicked on the default "My filters" folder and then clicked "locate file", it took me to the "my filter" folder in Version 4. I don't know why or how this did what it did, but it does need to be looked into. If it happened to me it could happen to others. Hope this helps the techs and other users.
I'll keep testing to make sure this fix works and let you know if I have anymore problems.

Mardar, we'd be happy to investigate (we received similar reports thru the contact form) but we've been unable to reproduce it so far. Clicking "Locate" always gives the correct location for us. Will appreciate if you could recollect the steps that caused this issue.

One of the issues is that when FF4 and 5 share the same storage location FF5 takes over the filters even version 4 filters....Once these filters from version 4 open in version 5 they are marked as version5 and can no longer open in V4 and no are seen in version4......Thats when the shortcut can not be found dialog shows....
So first open FF4 and create a new storage location and then place a test filter in that folder......
Now close FF4 and open FF5....Again create a new storage location but choose the directory to point towards the location you created in FF4....This will add the test filter to FF5....Now go back to FF4 and create more filters to add to the storage location, close and open FF5...You can now close FF5 and go back to FF4 and the filters are no longer able to open....
Hope this helps GMM.... Stupid things happen to computers for stupid reasons at stupid times!

Well, with custom filters in custom storages this is expected: FF5-specific features like advanced randomization settings are saved in the filter's properties and cannot be used by an older FF version.
However in Mardar's case no custom storages were used, and the screenshots in the second post also show library filters, not custom filters. What else could cause this behavior?..

I also don't know, but I can confirm what Mardar and CFandM said. I add that ( it may be obvious, but I say it anyway ), uninstalling FF 5, all filters are back with FF 4 ( at least for me ), so it is simply a default application change.

Hi GMM, I really did nothing other than download Beta and played with it a while. I then closed it out. The only thing I can think I did differently was the next time I downloaded a filter from the library I didn't have any of the programs open. Usually Version 4 opens, but this time the beta opened and I had to close it out and start V4 to get my download. Do you think that is when this happened? After that I always opened V4 before I download from the library otherwise beta5 would default open.
Oh and GMM the filters in the screen shot are not library filters although they may have become library filters after I downloaded them. They are filters either shared from the forum or shared from friends off site.
Hi CFandM and Hi Ramlyn I didn't mean to ignore you.
