Hi..
My first post so. please be patient, may well be that I just don't understand these things. I'm quite noob with FForge. I am in progress of making an Lens Flare-fx with Free polygons and I noticed that even though the Sides input starts from 3, the Integrer slider shows 1 at the user interface. There's allways 2 more sides on polygons than what's set from the slider. This seems highly unintutive, especially since there seems to be no way to make Integer slider to start from any other value than 1 .. Also, there seem to be very limited amount of math (or other options) to these Numeric inputs. Another question.. Is there way to store designs in a way that they can be opened on older versions of Filter Forge? At the moment I'm using this v4 demo, but I'd like to make filters (when possible) in a way they work on all versions people have. Thanks.. PS: My Flare-fx would not work on older FForges, since it uses loops. I'm quite sure I should have started with something simpler.. ![]() |

I kinda remember thinking "oh that's uhh weird" when 2.0 came out with those polygon tools. It's pretty much by design so you'd kinda have to just stand with it. In regard to the math tools for controls it's something we've been asking for. For now there's RGB math but no other way of doing math for control-only inputs. In regard to older versions, what's made in v4 cannot be opened in older versions (and such the logic goes). Nodes get updated as well so there's no way of going backwards with the software itself. You can technically start with 1.0 and work your way up but why bother dealing with old versions of components anyway? ![]() |

Ah.. No wonder I had such hard time trying to make things work in a way I first expected. I'm quite sure these things are so obvious to those who have been using the software for longer time. Before Loops there perhaps were less need to actively alter Control-inputs, but at 4.0 it's totally different thing.
For backward compatibility. I just had this idea, *if* i'd ever manage to make half decent filter, it might get more use and thus be more popular if it were usable for those who have not yet (ever?) upgraded to the latest. On the other hand.. There are so many great filters (and zillion copies of the easy ones) that I seriously doubt I'd ever had a chance. ![]() |

Well.. It's approved now. http://www.filterforge.com/filters/12262.html
I kinda like the reflections, but sunburst is still somewhat mess. I think I'll need to spend more time with it (don't want to borrow someone's bloks directly). IMHO the best way for FForge to fix this controller thing would be making another LUA script type that just returs the controller-output. That would help a lot. Edit: I just downloaded and looked "I Dreamt of Whales" a first time... OMG. Somehow that looks like totally impossible thing to do. |

Thanks.. Not a solution I'd prefer, but it works and is something I didn't figure out on my own. Of course those 1 and 2 sided Polygos are a bit odd, but that's not your (or mine) fault
![]() I have to think about this one. To use it or not. I kinda hate the duplications on those FreePolygon -components, even though these most likely do not slow the rendering noticeably. |
