Following various suggestions, I had FF3 installed and working on my X4. I also got it installed the same way on my X6-32 bits but in the X6-64 bits, I get this error:

<class XFW::ArgumentError> The handle 0023A6A0 is not a valid window handle.

Is it a bug? Is it just not working on 64 bits like some plugins? is there a different method?

For information, here is how I got it installed and working:
- installed it with the default settings; it installed the standalone version and in my PSP8 and 9
- in my X4, I went to File > Preference > File Location and for the Plug-ins, I directed it to the Plugins folder in the standalone installation.
- did the same thing for X6 but it works only on 32 bits and not the 64 bits, with the exact same process.

Maybe is because Filter Forge (FF) is not 64 bit, internally works as 32 bit, but the plugin connection make the bridge to be able to use FF as a plugin on 64 bit applications, and maybe it can happen that if the plugin inside does not support directly the software you are using it will not work with the 64 bit version

Although this must be confirmed by someone from FF Inc. as I really do not know much how it really works the plugin.

That is the explanation I was kind of expecting. Now, PSPX6 has a 32 bit version and a 64 bit version, many filters are not compatible with the 64 bit version because they were created on the 32 bit technology. I was kind of hoping that FF was ahead of that.

I thought I had read something about 64 bits but I cannot find anything now.

I also think it would be good to have this formally confirmed by an official staff member of FF. In addition, I am working with version 3. Maybe version 4 IS compatible with 64 bit?

I wish the documentation on the compatibility would also include PSP versions above X1. That is 5 years old!

The official compatibility host list is here but I do not know if this is outdated and has not been updated, or that all the other hosts that is ALSO compatible and has been told that FF also works like the software from Xara is also compatible and working with FF, even if maybe is not included in the plugin as default.

Also maybe and perhaps you can find something useful reading this other thread about using FF as a plugin

What are the differences between using FF as standalone and as plugin?

Thanks for the notice. Unfortunately, I only have version 3 so I cannot upgrade to 4.007. However, others might be able to chime in if they got version 4.0

Well, you could download 4.007 and use it as trial version for 30 days and it will work with your Paintshop X6

True enough! I might just do that. At least to test the installation.

Well, I downloaded the trial, and installed it. It turned out I was able to pick and choose among ALL my PSP versions installed on my computer (I have 8, 9, X, X4, X6 installed right now). I had them all checked and that was the simplest installation I could ask for. Nothing else to do!

In case anyone using Paintshop Pro is interested in the process of installing FF4, i made a couple of videos:

Installing FF with PSP:
http://youtu.be/IF2gBSkH7dA

Adding Filters to FF in PSP:
http://youtu.be/XvVHwa3ylns

Although it does not illustrate the installation of FF on PSPX7, i simply had to point PSP to the folder where FF was installed, and once PSP was restarted, it worked in there too.

Hope it helps.
