Please, do not use IE 9 to download .ffxml files if you do want to have problems and errors downloading.

I have seen that when using Internet Explorer 9, I want to download a FF filter that has been posted in the forums, I CAN´T do it in the same easy way that with other browsers.

Same for me in my pc, it is just shown in .xml But when I look in my library, all the filters are named with numbers before the .ffxml extension. So this one has no number but just a title. Do I have to rename by just insert ff before the title ?

Yes, this is the problem, it seems that Internet explorer does NOT recognize the .ffxml extension in the same way than others browsers, and gives the error to save only as .xml instead of .ffxml, and worse can be that even it deletes the real name and changes it to some number.

For example see this thread here that contains some .ffxml files

http://filterforge.com/forum/read.php...ssage95896

Please, if you do not see it, scroll upward or downward a little.

Using CHROME or OPERA browser is MUCH EASIER and error free !!!!

You go to the post that contains the .ffxml link and JUST click ONCE over it, and will open a new window asking where do you want to save the "filter forge filter" because it recognized very well the extension and does not change nothing to the file and you do not have "save target as" or rename anything.

Then after download, just click on the left bottom corner to the downloaded file and Chrome will open it and install directly in the "my filters" folders.

OR also you can go to the folder that you downloaded the filter, and double click over it and it will be installed directly in the "my filters" folders

I think that this surely also works in Firefox, but have can´t try it in this moment.

So if you want an easy and fast way to download FF filters from the forum DO NOT USE internet explorer 9, until it will be able to recognize the filter forge file extension in the same way as the others browsers already do.

I think this thread should be made sticky so any person that is using Internet explorer to download any .ffxml file from the forum, could know that it will NOT be possible, I mean the file prefix will be changed to .xml and so you will need to rename it back to .ffxml to work.

I use IE9 and all you have to do is right click a link, Save As, and then rename the .xml to .ffxml and choose All Files (*.*)
That will tell IE to shut up and take it like a man. smile:)

I respect and agree that you want to use Internet Explorer if you like it and you do not mind and do not bother having to rename the files, but personally I prefer MUCH better to use another browser that is compatible with .ffxml files and when you download it, it is already done and you only have to double click over it to install it automatically inside FF.

I don't think there's a realy good reason to use Internet Explorer at all, I was just saying that if you do, you can manualy change the filte extension.

Some people have no choice of their browser, because the tech guys where they work won't let them install anything else. I was working at a place where after each reboot the computer "forgot" anything you did and went back to factory settings.
