B in the HSB model is the brightest of the RGB input channels. However negative input seems to break that principle (it clamps to zero). Try inputting R = G = B = -0.01. The output should be -0.01, but is 0.

This behavior is by design. If the B channel in a HSB or the Y channel in a HSY image is negative it will be clipped to 0. Try the RGB color model instead.

Ok, hmm. The conversion is not reversible then. Perhaps it should not promote HDR support. Anyways I use B extraction as a fast way of getting Max(R, G, B), which otherwise would require setting up several components.
