the only computer i have hooked up to the internet is a mac. i have a pc, but it is on an internal office network and not connected to the internet. that's where my filter forge is loaded. unfortunately there is no option to just download a file and so i can't get any of the filters from the site. any ideas?

The way FF works you must use the program to download the actual filters, what you get from the website are merely links. Until the Mac version comes out or they change the system you're out of luck.
One temporary solution is ask someone to send you a few filters you're interested in. |

...and that someone will be me as the support person here, I guess ![]() ![]() rikard, I mean we can really send you the library filters, it's about 3 Mb in .zip. If this is acceptable, please contact me via the contact form at http://www.filterforge.com/contact/ But certainly, as uberzev said, this is only a temporary solution - you won't be getting any new filters or program updates. |

bella,
that's a great gesture. i've read several posts in the forums from folks that have FF installed on one computer, but not the one they use to connect to the internet. it might be a good thing to add a filter text file download to the normal download area so that others could download the files without having to use FF and they could then just put the text files on a disk and move them to their other computer. might save some posts and work in the long run. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Bella, Tks. I emailed you. I agree with Kraellin's suggestion though, there should be some way to download without needing a pc.

rikard, I've sent you the library filters.
I've also talked to Vladimir concerning this issue - we won't be uploading the filters on the website as a separate text file yet. There have only been a few cases by now when users needed an alternative way to get the filters, and we prefer to send the filters individually each time, upon request. |

bella, thanks. i think my email may not support a 3mb attachment as I never got it... maybe you could send it in three installments of 1mb each?

rikard, did you receive my email at all, even without the attachments?
The thing is we've already had problems with sending mail to an account at goldeneraproductions.org, so perhaps the problem is your mail service provider will not accept any mail from us, and you'd better just give me another email address? ![]() |

rikardr,
you're from Gold? how cool! i used to be at Gold, before Gold was Gold. i currently go to Cincinnati at the Org there. i would never have guessed you guys would be using FF, but makes perfect sense now that i see it. if you need any help with getting these files, i can probably help out. there are file transfer web sites, g-mail (which allows MUCH larger e-mails) and other means, if necessary. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Kraellin, Hi! Small world. I still haven't had luck getting these files and don't have another email address. if there's a file transfer website where i could pick them up that would be great.
ps: I did notice your quote. rikard |

rikardr,
small world, indeed. ok, here's the web site: http://www.yousendit.com/ . i've not used this personally, but it's a known site and presumably reputable. it does require inputting an e-mail address, both from me and you. so, i'll need your e-mail address. mine is: craigdwalters "at" bellsouth.net . just use the @ symbol instead of the "at" and no spaces. i'll need yours in order to address who the file is for. but, i'll leave it open and not passworded. again, i've not used this service. this is from their privacy statement, in case you've concerns about e-mail spamming:
ok, not having any way to test this completely, especially the retrieval part, since i've only one computer here, i believe anyone can send, but to retrieve it appears you have to register an account. the registration is simple and free. once you've registered, you can log in and check your 'in box' and any files addressed to you shld be there... i think. i just registered and took a look and that's how it seems to work. if this doesnt work for you either, i can try a direct e-mail to you. bella's attempt may be being blocked for whatever reason. if all of that doesnt work, there are yet other ways to do this, even if i have to burn a cd and send it by normal mail. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

rickard,
i sent you an email with an attachment. dont know if you got it or not, but if you did, please acknowledge here or by email...here would be better, as i check this site more frequently than my e-mail. i'm also attempting to send via yousendit, but it seems VERY slow, if it's going at all. i've also been reading their FAQs and found this:
so, i dont know if it's sending or not. all it says on the send page is:
so, i dont know if it's stalled, blocked by some browser settings or actually sending. i'll leave my machine running tonight in the hopes that it's actually sending and check it in the morning. hopefully, one of these two methods will get you the files. if not, there are still other alternatives. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

kraellin, tks. didn't get the email. so hopefully the the "yousendit" works... otherwise, if you break it into a few separate files, i'm sure just straight email attachments would work. sorry this is becoming such a cycle.

ricard,
ok, i got the file uploaded this time. seems it wants some activex controls turned on in the browser. didnt have one of those turned on last night. this time i got a progress bar, saw the upload take place and got an acknowledgement that it was completed. so, you shld be able to get it now. it only took a few minutes to upload. surprising that yousendit doesnt have some simple instructions on how to use it and what's required to use it. oh well, it's free. here's the link to the file site: http://download.yousendit.com/B848ED386B413A23 or you can just use your login on yousendit, i would think. but the file is there now. regarding your e-mails, i dont know what e-mailer you're using, but it may be that it is blocking anything with attachments. that would not be uncommon. your isp may also have filters like anti-spam, anti-virus and so on that end up blocking attachments as well. this too isnt that uncommon these days. again, this file has been zipped up, so you'll need something like winzip to unpack it. the file will be the current library as of late yesterday. any new files in the FF library loaded up since then wont be included. i think there were 1426 files in the zip, all very small, relatively speaking (5 to 20kb or so each). having transferred these type files before, i dont think you need anything else, like the thumbs and so on. i believe these get made when you use FF with the new filters. but, i dont recall if the pre-sets are included with those or not. bella or someone else could verify this and if necessary, i can send those as well. i also dont know where these would go on a mac. in windows, it's 'documents and settings\youraccountusername\application data\filter forge\system\library' for the library downloads. or you can put them in 'my filters' but they wont be arranged as they would be in a normal download from the library. but, they shld work from there regardless. but on a mac, i just dont know. Bella or Vladimir shld be able to help there. i do hope this works, but if it doesnt, let me know and we'll find another way. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
