DO not ISO/clone your harddrive for backups/restores if you are running Adobe CS3 or CS4 programs!!!

Adobe, in their effort to prevent piracy, added a neat little "preventative" program to CS3 and CS4 which installs hidden in your system. If you try to create a disk image/ISO/clone of your hardrive, this program will corrupt your entire system. Adobe gave no warnings of this, will not take any responsibility for it, and they will not help you at all. Adobe will only say "sorry.....nothing we can do.....you are going to have to re-install everything.....". Un-frick'n-believable.....placing something like this on one of the primary means by which to backup and restore your system.....Adobe has officially lost their minds, IMO..... smile:?:

If you have CS3 and CS4 programs istalled.....you are using programs like Acronis True Image, Power ISO, Magic ISO Maker, etc.....and your system has been going haywire.....then Adobe's little "un-thought-out" hidden addition to CS3 and CS4 is the most likely cause of your problems.....

You have to go back to CS2 in order to avoid it.....

Why don't they just dongle it and quit with the root kits and whatever ? Hell, many audio apps that cost 1/2 or less as much as Photoshop require iLoks and dongles of various kinds.

i need an actual link i can pass along, steve. something like what you're talking about needs to be backed up with lots of evidence before i can post it on, say, retouchpro. and if this is true, i'm SURE folks on retouchpro will want to know about it! but i've seen too many 'rumors' proven out to be false to just pass this along as if it's gosphel.

Guilty as charged!!! smile;) smile:D

Craig, Betis, Dilla......it's all over the place in there. If you can't find any of it, simply post this question up.....or send it directly to Adobe.....

"Is there a hidden program added to CS3 and CS4 installs that will corrupt if harddrives are disk imaged/cloned???"

Adobe isn't "publicly" saying anything about it.....just users who have encountered it.....

Just giving a "heads up" from my experience......you're welcome..... smile;) smile:)

and see, i knew there was a reason not to install that cs3 upgrade smile:)

I posted about this on my forum and several people replied that they have cloned drives or restored drives and either not had the problem or only had to contact Adobe for new authorization numbers. No one reported or know of anyone's OS getting messed up.

Well, I found out first-hand that it's there.....Adobe confirmed it with me.....and if you dig through the Adobe forums, you will find that I'm not the only one who has encountered this.....

Fred & Craig, I would suggest taking a minute to send a quick email to Adobe support about it......they should confirm it for you.....so you can give your readers the 411 straight from the horse's mouth..... smile;)

A link to the post(s) in the Adobe forum or the keywords used would be most helpful.

No one from Adobe Support ever commented about it in their Forums (that I've read).....just POed users.....

I read alot of them......but going back in there to find them is like looking for needles in a haystack.....I'm sure you know how much of a "cluster****" it is in there...... smile;)

Like I said.....if you want to inform your readers of this, get it straight from the horse's mouth.....either send a quick email to Adobe Support or post this question in the Support Forum yourself.....

"Did Adobe, in an effort to prevent piracy, add a hidden/embedded program to CS3 and CS4 installs that will corrupt if harddrives are disk imaged/cloned.....and/or if Adobe programs/harddrives are attempted to be restored from an ISO???"

Adobe Forum post re: FlexNet licensing system and hard drive cloning... smile:|

This makes for interesting reading, I'm just pleased I'm not in the habit of cloning my hard drive - generally when things go tits up on my machines I always tend to "Wipe & Load"...

Nice link. Go Adobe, go!

I'm glad I don't use any Adobe products from the bloated CS range, and I'll continue to not use them. Who needs anything beyond PS7 anyway? smile:-p

thanks, bio!

so, what is meant by 'cloning your harddrive'? what exactly is that? is that just basically making a copy of it, not an iso, but a straight copy to another drive? and if so, why would that break anything?
