To everyone who has "GetWindowTextW" errors AND uses NVidia's nView Desktop Manager, whether on a dual-monitor setup or not:
We need as much information as possible about your nView configuration. If you have a free minute, please post the following: - Version number of nVidia display driver - Number of monitors in your setup - Screen resolution of every monitor - Screenshots of nView settings (all tabs) This will help to track down the bug with SetFocus and possibly a few more. |

After messing around with the nvidia driver settings further.
I was able to reproduce the crash 10x in a row doing the following: Display Properties > Advanced > GeForce 7800 GT tab > (Sidebar) Desktop Management > Desktops Tab> [] Enable Multiple Desktops -If multiple desktops are enabled, the crash will happen every time, disabling this allows FF to start, no problem. -If multiple desktops are re-enabled after FF has been started, FF will continue to run. After much playing around, this is the ONLY Nvidia Display Manager feature I've been able to reproduce the crash with reliably, so far. Version Info: GeForce 7800 GT Bios: 5.70.02.13.07 ForceWare Version: 78.01 DX9.0c WinXP 5.1 SP2 -hope this helps -Nicholas ![]() |

I'm using an NVidia GeForce4 MX440 8xAGB Driver Version: 4.3.0.3
One monitor set at 1280x1024 I'll try to get the screen shots ASAP. I'm not sure how to post them here. |

When you type your post, there is a "Load Attachment" thingy right below the edit box -- just attach the screens there, one screen per post. |

bemused0, could you please post a shot of the dialog which opens with "Options..." button when "Enable multiple desktops" is checked?

Nvida stability issues.
I've had quite a few NVida/Geforce cards in recent years, after switching from Cirus Logic and TNT's in the mid 1990s. Those include the MX440 and 7800GT. Within the next few weeks I'll switch to ATI based (256 or 512, due to the new Windows spec). The MX440 is below the recommended spec for filterforge; however it has an earlier history of extreme instability under XP - affecting first the "overclocker" and then "Desktop-Manager/Multiple Desktops". Responding to the former - they dumped the overclocker module in later driver upgrades, but left the desktop manage/multiple screen module (bigger bug problem). It's instability increases proportional to the onboard ram (both graphics card and system), plus the higher CPU clock rates (above 1.8GHZ). They and MS were aware of these bugs because they managed to get a nominally stable driver regime and packed it with XP-sr2; however by the time XP-sr2 was finally released, Nvida were five or six driver upgrades ahead of the packaged unit. If users had upgraded (as recommended), before installing the XP-SR2 patch, the Nvida desktop controls/card either froze completely or was riddled with bugs and instability. The "fix" was to disable the desktop manager and multiple screens. With the 7800Gt I've not had those problems, but I have had problems getting it to run as it is supposed to under XP (both home and pro), plus it gets temperamental/hangs in higher-end CAD and 3D applications (ie. CAD.Engineering design/virtual wind tunnels, etc.). Bottom line is it is the Nvida chips and software that are the problem - and have been for several years. I am aware my experiences are shared by other engineers/designers. Most have given-up on NVida. As mentioned - I'm switching to ATI based graphics cards. Point? As the issues you mention as affecting Filterforge, are identical to those caused by buggy/obsolete NVida drivers and/or conflicts between "MS approved" XP-SR2 drivers and latter 'updates' by NVida ... it seems fairly obvious you're trying to fix something that is not actually caused by your software/program. Rather - your software makes people aware of a problem that has been known/existed for some time. Cheers, Rixx "What me officer??? You must be mistaken..." |

I'm using an NVidia GeForce FX5200 with a 4.4.03 driver. I have two monitors...#1 (La Cie 321) resolution is 1600x1200. On #2 the resolution is 1280 x 960. I have to be out of town until tomorrow afternoon and I can't do the screen shots right now. However if you still need them, let me know and I'll do it tomorrow when I return.

Since the latest update (1.003) solves these problems, this thread is no longer relevant.
