So I have been playing around with Filter Forge and learning it a bit. Today when I tried using it from within photoshop the option was greyed out. So I tried opening Filter Forge on its own and it works fine.

Thanks for the help smile:)

I once had a similar problem.
I opened a black and white image in PS, and PS said that the image had an outdated ICC profile and it would ignore the profile -- but I could still work on the image. But PS grayed out the Filter Forge option in the filters section, so that I couldn't use it. However if I open the image in FF, FF can still work with it.

P.S. I just tried this out again and noticed that PS also grayed out a lot of it's own options like "color balance" too. So with that B&W image, it seems PS can't give it any color.

I'm not sure if Stormy's problem has anything related to this, but thought it might help...

This is probably caused by the fact that the image you opened or created had a bit depth unsupported by Filter Forge. Make sure that your image is not an indexed color image (all GIFs and usually some PNGs and BMPs have indexed colors). A safe option would be RGB 8, 16 or 32 bit.
