Using the latest FF15 I can't even preview this filter (Library_13630-1.ffxml) it brings my i9 CPU usage up to 100% and - after hours - causes my laptop to reboot.
Editing the filter to reduce the iterations to 6 or less rectifies the issue, but the result is poor. I am testing it at 7, but render time has shot up again. This problem has apparently been around for a few years ago, although the filter is said to have worked much quicker initially (and not crashed PCs). ![]() Cheers,

Maybe you can contact directly Filter Forge Support Team (this is the direct link: Support) and explain this issue.
They may have some good idea for solving the problem. It may also be a trouble related to a change in the last versions of Filter Forge, so they may solve it with an update. It happened to me before that I found something not working and they immediately solved it. |

Hi Ramlyn, actually I contacted Support first and posted here while awaiting the response.
The reply I got was to the effect that it's up to the filter author to fix it. I would contest that FilterForge 15 rebooting my PC by running a FF provided filter is cause for FF to look into it, but TBH I'm just too darned tired (and hot!). But thanks anyway! Cheers,

I just tested in FF 9, FF 12, FF 13 and FF 14. It all seems to be the same wait for the filter to render so not much of a difference. The earliest version I have installed at the moment is FF 9.

Thank you!
I have tested version 7 and it's behaving similarly there too. Thanks to https://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...&TID=15162https://www.filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=15162 I could download any major version and install it as a trial. Opening up Library_13630-1.ffxml in a text editor and it looks like it was created in version 5.9. I'm probably going to try it in a version 5 as soon as I can get to it. I'm looking to try and rework the filter so that it works faster - but I have started to worry how many of the 14,000+ filters don't actually WORK Cheers,

I would be confident in saying that most work, but there are those made with some of the slower components and component combinations. Such as some of the blur, reflection, distortion combos and components by themselves. Some of the filters made with map scripts can be slow as well. Then some of the filters that use the ambient occlusion lighting but again it is all about the method used in the filters tree.... Also on FF5 it will install on windows10 and work but cannot connected to the site to download filters. I have not tried FF 6-8.. When I click "Quote" in blue, bottom right of your (or anyone's) post the screen jumps to an empty textbox like this. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
In this instance (and potentially others) \i was thinking about breaking the filter down into separate parts so that I can generate bitmaps to use rather than re-calculate each time. I might be able to get it to work, I might not. It's something to do to address my issue with finding stuff that - on a practical level at least - doesn't work.
FF7 has the same problem, but I have found that copying the filter directly to the "My Filters" folder within C:\Users\... works. It's not worth checking FF6 IMO - since major version 5 minor version 9 seems to be the original FF used I plan to try and test FF 5 to see if this filter has EVER been worthwhile! Makes me wonder about the FF testing regime is all. I've been preparing to install FF5 but have not got to it yet - hopefully tomorrow Cheers,

Wow. Just WOW!
OK, FF5 runs "foreign planet" super, super fast. So I may want to try v6 after all - but it's definitely a filter that worked when submitted, but which changes to FilterForge itself have affected negatively Cheers,
