Hi, I have recently purchased Filter Forge 9 cannot connect to the server to check for updates or download filters.

It just repeatedly states "Unable to connect to server". It's not a firewall issue as I switched that off and still get the same message. Regardless of the connection options I also get the same error message. In a browser window I can go to https://www.filterforge.com ok but when I attempt to go to https://www.filterforge.net I get the following messages: Chrome reports this: This site can’t provide a secure connection www.filterforge.net sent an invalid response. ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR So I have a product that I cannot use as I cannot get hold of any filters. Please suggest fix I notice others have the same issue when using MaC. thanks |

What happens when you open a filter page, for example https://filterforge.com/filters/284.html, and click "Open this filter in Filter Forge" ? Please describe in detail. |

			Hi

It goes to Filter forge app and then just has the message "connecting to the server" but it fails to connect no matter what setting I use on options, and even if I switch off my firewall completely. After a while another message appears "unable to connect to the server. Please make sure you are connected to the internet" I am connected to the internet fine. Exactly the same issue as being reported in the Mac thread on the same subject. thanks Pete |

The Mac thread is about upgrading to Catalina which is irrelevant to Windows users.

What online options have you set in Filter Forge? Select Tools > Options > Online and choose one of the following: 1. If you use a proxy server to connect to the Internet, choose the "Use proxy" option in the "Connection settings" area. 2. If you don't use proxy, choose "Direct connection". |

You can try also to use a different browser and see if the problem may be something with Chrome

When trying Edge I get this error accessing https://www.filterforge.net/ Cannot securely connect to this page This might be because the site uses outdated or unsafe TLS security settings. If this keeps happening, try contacting the website’s owner. |

Please try another FF version, for example FF 8.

Download and install the trial version of Filter Forge 8 using this direct link: https://filterforge.com/download/Filte...0Setup.exe and try downloading a filter. |

Pete L, please do the following:

			- try to download any filter several times in succession, like 5 attempts in a row; - write down the date and time you're doing these attempts; - check out your public IP address (https://www.whatismyip.com/) Post your IP address and your connection time. We'll try to locate your connection attempts in the library server logs. Edit: the filter database gets backed up every day at 11:45 pm server time. Please avoid downloading filters from 11:45pm to 12:15am (UTC-2). |

Think I got this sorted.... seems to have been some old cookie or something left from old version that when cleared out filter downloads now work...
